Mover advice 2019

We are doing Mama Mia, and the director wants some flash and trash for the final production number ( really the extended curtain call).

So I am looking for some moving head fixtures.
Pipes about 17.5 feet above the floor, so I probably need at least a 25 degree beam spread.
Looking for light weight and small.
Want that really high color temprature that will cut through whatever stage lights I have up.
Need gobos, colors, etc - but nothing out of the ordinary.
The current plan is to rent - or purchase something chinese.

( This will be in additon to a bunch of LED par cans which will be visible to the audience. Flash and Trash indeed)

Thoughts and suggestions?

Have you investigated the options in your local rental house? That+budget tends to guide most questions like this unless youre in a really big city with all of the options.

Clay Pakys with some Vipers for gobos.

Best flash n trash you can get.

Actually, used discharge luminaries have plunged in price on the used market. In February Clay Paky had a number of new Alpha HPE300s listed at 800 euros.

Clay pakys are lightweight and the vipers were just for gobos obviously anything could fill that role.

Both can be rented cheap if you know the right people.

He didn’t say a budget so I gave my recommendation.

"Clay paky" is a company. They currently make/sell everything from the 15lb mini-B to the 100lb scenius unico, with sizes to match. That's a pretty ambiguous suggestion.

I'm not disagreeing that Clay paky and martin are two companies to investigate and that they make solid products. I'm just expressing that based on the context of the original question I'm not sure that they make the most sense. Perhaps @JChenault can provide more context so we can provide more detailed suggestions.

I’ll. Know more what my options are after monday when I can talk to my local rental houses.

I know I will be limited to what the shops have. I was just looking for ideas in a small moving head, 20 to 30 degree beam angle, color and gobos.

Are you getting influence from the original Mamma Mia lighting design? I'm obviously a fan, if you've noticed my avatar image... the original megamix was designed with VL5s on the U shaped truss only flown in for the finale.
On the fast tours (2ish weeks per city) they just flew the first and 3rd electric in (as shown in my avatar) and used the regular plot of VL500s and VL2000s.

Did you not want the moving lights to be usable in the rest of the show for color or gobos? Might save you effort and get you more leverage if you could use the lighting for more than the finale.

As far as "flash and trash" you really only need something bright. Doesn't need a specific beam angle or to have a gobo. A MAC500 in an appropriately sized venue works just as well as Vipers in an arena.

Our local rental options are limited and tend to be a LOT higher priced than other parts of the country. A few years ago, I seriously looked in to renting from a major L. A. House and it was actually the same price to ship them in as it was to rent here.
