Some good from all this

I thought there was a thread here on positives but can't find it. Moderators feel free to move this if there is one.

This article discusses some of the environmental impacts of the pandemic. While many people are having trouble breathing, it seems the atmosphere is getting a break. https://environment.yale.edu/news/a...YT_YaleNews - Alumni From Peoplehub_3-25-2020 But as this points out, it could also slow a transition to renewable sources of energy.

Falls in the unintended consequences category for me.

Well. In Seattle, trauma patients at our major hospital are way down since we started social distancing and encouraging folks to stay home.

Even better ( since we started doing this before the rest of the country ) those measures seem to be helping. looking at the number of new cases, we have attained a linear increase cases instead of exponentia. This is (IMHO) a big thing.

And - I teach a college course part time. Next quarter ( as we are going online for the quarter) my commute will be a lot easier.

The reduction in traffic in the greater Seattle area is astounding. Yesterday, I drove from Bellingham to Tacoma, about 130 miles. It took 2:06 even though I hit Seattle at rush hour. That's at least 90 minutes less than normal and I had to watch my speed.

We're now in a mandatory, stay at home order. A positive is that broadcasters are on the state's essential workers list, so I am still employed and can move freely. (I avoid human contact in my travels.) The downside is that I'm pretty busy trying to help some of our staff to work from home.

My commute to work is down to the Early 1990's times.

The healing of the environment is going to take a long time but it is amazing how quickly just a little bit of effort can contribute huge amounts of help. Imagine if we took the environment as seriously as we do a pandemic.

My podiatry appointment was canceled. Now, who's going to clip my toenails? I'm going to need an emotional support squirrel to get through this.
@JohnnyAmos Possibly one of those little balls you squeeze to relief tensions and stave off boredom: No animals would be harmed by this method.

From a purely personal standpoint, my colonoscopy got canceled.
Hmmm . . . @JChenault The threads questioning sterilization of microphones, coupled with your post, is bringing visions of sterilizing microphone goose necks, and their extensions, to my warped mind.

Well - it looks like things are returning to normal. Just got a call from my hospital to reschedule my colonoscopy.

Yeah the hospital system I work for got the go ahead to start elective procedures again a couple weeks ago. Of course there are conditions around surge capacity, stocks of PPE on hand, OR and ICU availability, etc. etc. Gonna be a long, slow ramp up but it’s a start.

A year ago and typically for the time of year, I'm lucky to get out on the bike 2-3 days per week as it's our busy season. Now it's up to 5 and all for longer rides as I'm getting in shape quicker. I look forward to 1 or 2 rainy days a week just to have an excuse. to not ride.

Traffic, which was non existent 6 weeks ago, has really picked up the past 2 weeks, not back to norm but getting there. Gas is also about $.80 per gallon cheaper, but no place to go to use it.
