3rd party control of ETC Paradigm

My church currently has a ETC Paradigm arch lighting system. We have a touch screen to control the 12 presets we need. I I’m ryring to integrate the AV system via UDP so we can control the lights via iPad through the AV system along with some automated functions. We’ve been able to successfully recall the presets and feedback works perfectly. We also have Raise lights, lower which affect levels globally on all 32 channels from where they are at and an global Off. Unfortunately we can’t seem to get feedback on those. Raise and lower aren’t used super often so not critical but it would be nice to have the off button sync on both systems. We can’t seem to find a “get” command for this. Any ideas?

Phone ETC's (Phenomenal) help / technical support line; have your installation number at the ready, and preferably phone them while you're in situ / hands on / staring at your system's touch screen.

This is a little bit config dependent, so you may need to talk to the system installer (or ETC tech support) to know for sure how yours is currently set up. There's an option to define a specific preset as the Off Preset to cover cases where certain channels should be on (ghost light, safety lights) when everything else is off. If your config is set up that way, then Space Off is really equivalent to activating the Off Preset and you can check the status of that preset to indicate when the space is off. If there isn't a specific preset assigned as "Off", then Space Off just means all channels in that space are set to zero. Tyler's suggestion of checking a channel level could work if you have a particular channel that's always non-zero whenever anything is on in the space, but that could get messy.

The installer can also help you out by adding triggers to the config to automatically send status updates whenever something changes in Paradigm. That way you don't have to constantly query using the "get" commands. This does include a way to more directly indicate the off status of a space--though it may not be obvious at first glance if you happen to be working with a programmer who doesn't do much serial/UDP integration. Another plus is that triggers also acts as a nice acknowledgement that the commands you send to Paradigm are being received and executed the way you expect.
