Box Truss Span Length capacity

Why unless truss is a “look” you want why use truss at all in a fixed studio position?
A 1-1/2” schedule 40 pipe grid put together with speed rail fittings is far more useful than a hunk of truss

I mean if he can use all 4 sides of his truss from a FoH position, it’s much more useful than a stick of pipe. Also a grid requires many man hours, many men and material. Truss is 8 bolts,4 guys and 2 lifts in a long union 2 hours. I think that beats any budget for a small space.

Oh you're not wrong at all, that was our original request, but that proved very prohibitive in the confines of the space, which is ultimately true. So weirdly while the box truss is significant overkill it should last longer than the building.

We'll be able to use 3 sides so that's definitely a bonus. It's also a "permanent" install as a TV studio so while labor isn't a long term issue after installation. We're also investing in time in the sense that this thing should never move, but we might add stuff to it over time so the additional capacity might work out in the end. This is a small sports center style studio that is a new renovation to a large facility. Once the project is complete and I can release it publicly I'll come back with photos.

I look forward to it

I know everyone has been waiting on bated breath, but the wait is over! The infamous ruckus truss is in the air! er... on the wall! It should last as long as the building and be able to handle "anything" the future can throw at it. Bonus points if you can spot the deflection that originally started this whole post 🤪

Glass shatter moment when you see that sticker everytime you look up. Regardless looks clean nice find on a full stick.

Nice Xlite truss you got there. Should would well for their space. And XSF is a great and reputable manufacture.

And those mounting plates certainly won't be an issue.....ever.....in a million years. 😉

I wanna say I would have caught it during load in... but at least now I will for sure! ;)

@egilson1 you only think it's Xlite, like you would know! .... of course you know 🙃 they were great once they got the untranslated version of where this was going and what it was going to do so that we didn't have to split it into two sections.

The mounting plates are a necessary evil, but will outlive both of us... maybe combined. What you can't see is that they go through the sound proofing into the wall and are welded directly to the building steel. So a million years is a safe bet...

This reminds me; we have a new Technical Designer working with us at Stagecraft, Tray Allen. He gave us a fantastic insight into Truss rigging a couple weeks ago. Knowing something is cool, having an expert go back over the whole thing with you is worth its weight in gold!

Wait, tray as in, JTE tray?
