High School production of Marian cancelled

Carroll High School, near Ft Wayne IN, had scheduled a production of "Marian: The True Story of Robin Hood", which has some queer characters, apparently, in the background. The administration, the teachers, and all the students participating knew what it was about, and were all fine with it, but... well, I'll let Change.org tell you the rest, lest the parents involved sue me/us for defamation for characterizing the incident myself:

Please let me be the first to prove Godwin's Law. In 1933 they started burning the books of "Institut Fur Sexualwissenschraft" after several students broke in to the library. The Institute was founded in 1919 and its Founder was a strong proponent for the normalization, or at least acceptance of the LGBTQ community. The current climate we are experiencing is no different. Well, it is different, they are starting with thee laws introduced by gerrymandered politicians and whipping up the fear at the same time rather than vice versa.

I wonder what cuts were proposed and if they were approved by the publisher.

They do know it is theatre don't they. At worst it is make believe and just ask the question "How many LBGQTIA+ people work in theatre?" I say let the story be told.

And exactly how many of these protesting asshats were planning to attend the damn show in the first place?!?! Makes me sick. Even if your child was involved in the production, you have no opinion on the matter. Refuse to let them participate if you want, and let that be a fight in your own household. Otherwise shut the hell UP.

A similar thing happened during our high school production of Les Miz in Alabama. Thankfully that was over twenty years ago....before the MAGA roll-back madness. The parents lost their battle and pulled their kids from the production. We lost four ensemble members that Spring but they sucked big-time anyway, so it was no one's loss. And not even a year later, the most precious little angel, whose mother spearheaded the protests about "unwholesome content", got knocked up by a boy from church who ended up dumping her anyway🤣🤣🤣.

I'm shocked it hasn't cropped up here in FL yet. I left the public school side last year after almost 14 years in it, but our county has now mandated that all classroom libraries be taken out of sight of students until they can vet and approve everything. The penalty for having a "bad" book available is potentially a felony. That includes scripts so my former drama teacher had to dismantle her script library, but I haven't heard of censoring actual shows yet.

The world has gone mad. Next we will have to change history because someone is offended by it!

We're always looking out for censorship from the right...
I learned all about censorship from the left a while back in my hometown.
As they say, Only the 'H' is silent in 'Amherst'

Interesting.

If it was in fact mostly student-organized, I gotta call it a different thing from Marian; epecially so since the Broadway and film remakes both tack in that general direction as well...

Also, I grew up in Mass through 15, and also know how to pronounce Meffa, Brookline, Worcester, Glosta, and all those other cities enumerated at length in the Seth Meyers trailer for "Boston Accent":

I even know that there's only one parking space in Harvahd Yahd, and it's handicapped, so you *can't* pahk your cah there. And that the Kennedy accent is *not* a Boston accent. :)
