I've searched the forums and the internet and haven't found any information on these questions.

What type of signal the DMX out on the back of a lighting console?
Is it an elaborate audio based operation, where certain frequencies turn on specific dimmers? If so, how can it vary the intensities? Wouldn't there be a lot of stray signals from adjacent dimmers on nearby frequencies?

Are there any good links that have a visual form of the signals?

Any incite will be greatly appreciated.
Kevin

DMX = Digital Multiplexing. It's a digital signal.

I second, third, fourth etc Soundlight.

I learned how DMX512 worked from this site. And I have been able to build DMX senders and receivers with the knowledge of DMX I learnt here.

There is also a DMX question forum, click on the word "bulletin".

If you still have questions you can post them on his bulletin ( forum page) or we can try and answer them here.

Nice website. It should explain everything. The short answer is there are repeating packets of digital information, that send information sort of like how computers send information over the internet. Information on each channel is included in every packet repeating over and over again multiple times a second.

If you have more questions I keep recommending a book called "Practicle DMX" by Nick Mobsby it's easy reading with lots of diagrams to explain everything. You can buy it for about $30. It covers the history of DMX, DMX equipment, plus the new technology using ethernet, ACN, and RDM. http://www.plsnbookshelf.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=136

Van, you just have to realize your soon-to-be addiction and control your abuse of Smarties before they take over your life. Yes, you can use them as a very powerful energy boost to keep on top of your cue list, but please limit it to these medical purposes only. We would not want to have to worry about you turning in to a big roll of Smarties, now would we! (That said I have two pounds of them in my room right now. And almost always have a roll before breakfast to wake up. Then I brush my teeth.

Since when do Smarties come in rolls? I'm intrigued. I've only seen them in cardboard boxes around here.

Roll/Box take your pick. I also guess that this is take your pick of candy company...there are these Smarties and these smarties.

I thought it was my day to be the devil? Now back to the Woot-off.

You can't claim Mayhem. That is actually the name of a member...who is on the Senior Team...and has way more posts than you. Thus, you cannot claim Mayhem as one of your creations.

Or can he? No, there is only about 4 years age difference between Van & Mayhem... Now if Van has just used mayhem instead of Mayhem we would not be having this problem now...

Precisely!!

Those are the big smarties. I also have those. They're seriously an inch in diameter. Now that's what I call a sugar rush.
