6x?

Okay, okay, so I think I finally figured out the 360Q beam angle thing. If my new hypothesis is correct, it's actually quite embarrassing that I never made this connection before. All 360Q 6x"X" have the same housing (aside from the 6x22), and just different lenses? Am I right? I haven't noticed any notation on any of our fixtures to explain what angle or focal length they are.

The each have the same houseing pre-gate, but after the gate (where the shutters are) the length of the barrell changes. A 6x9, 6x12, 6x16, 6x22, all have different barrel lengths, 9", 12", 16", and 22" respectively. They also all have different lenses.

Hmm. I'll have to double check my inventory, but I'm pretty sure we only have two sizes. Of the smaller size, I'm not positive what angle, but I know I've had two of the same ones double hung, and with different beam diameters.

With the altman's, footer is right. There are some other manufacturers that you can not tell what is what by looking at it, but the altman barrels are different lengths.

6x9's and 6x12's look pretty close to each other, 6x16's look vastly different

This was discussed in a thread a while back. I remember going to the Altman website and finding the specs that listed the exact lengths of the various sizes of 360Q's. Either do some searching here or check out the Altman website.

yeah, 6x9 barrels aren't necessarily 9" long. Neither are 12's, 16's, or 22's. You have to measure from the focal point inside the fixture. I believe the focal point of an altman is just north of the hanging bracket. Also, 4.5x6.5's (although rare) have the same housing as a 6x9, but with a smaller and more recessed lens.

the rule of thumb I was tought, 6x9=width of your hand, 6x12, =width of your hand with your fingers spread.

Its not always perfect, but it gives at least a general idea.

Found this in another thread...

Using the measuring tape you have in the picture here are the minimum lengths of the altman fixtures with lens completely retracted.
6 X 9 - 16 1/2"
6 X 12 - 20 1/8"
6 X 16 - 21"
6 X 22 - 29"
