Good things are coming.....

Say what you will about Chauvet and the other "cheesy DJ effect" companies, but Chauvet has been creating some interesting products lately. I'm really interested in their VUE line of LED moonflower effects. They use red, green and blue LEDs and a high-definition fresnel lens to project the pattern created by the LED array. I wonder if they are going to take it the next step and develope the optics to allow the LED's to do colormixing, or blend them into a sharp focused beam.

Wow that's pretty impressive. As Bill said, good things are coming. It's not a matter of developing new technology, it's bringing the price down so that the average user can afford it. What's the list price on one of those 38" units Bill?

It probably doesn't out perform a Color Kinetics product but that's not the point. Just get the price down. When we can all afford them we can start comparing products based on performance.

Chauvet has recently announced a licensing agreement with Color Kinetics.

The MAP price is $ 249.99 ;)

They should be shipping by the end of October in limited quantities.

$250!! That's amazing! Looks like it doesn't do white all that great, and the output's still a little low for theater (it'll get washed out by anything else that's on). But what a great first step in making an affordable LED strip light. That's cheap enough a lot of places will buy them just to play with.

Um, BillESC, I can't help but notice some omissions in your comprehensive description of the unit.

Do the any of the initials "UL, ETL, CE," et cetera, appear on any labels on the fixture? How about "Made in ..." or "Assembled in ..."?

Qty. and Type of Data Connector(s)? Qty. and Type of Power Connector(s)?

I found the site http://www.chauvetlighting.com/fixtures/colorstrip_fix.shtml
but the User Manual.pdf file is 404.

Will these luminaires be on the exhibit floor at LDI in Orlando?

Please don't flame me. I'm sensitive. Remember, I'm the one who bought an LED PAR-64 can for $134 from ebay. It arrived with no User Manual or any documentation whatsoever, but printed on the box are "Made in China" and "CE". "CE" is also stamped into the yoke just below the tilt knob. Below that is a 0.75" x 1.25" label, in English and German, "Before unscrewing the housing cut the mains voltage keep dry!" This fixture was for my personal use only. And performance is better than I expected!

Just wondering; no malice of forethought intended or implied.

A lot of the stuff on ebay is directly privately imported from China, Chauvet at least in the dj side of things is a big, well know lower end product competatively priced company, So it will have all the approvals

Yeah Derek I know you've been hurt by your Chinese buying experience but it's Chauvet. While not exactly top of the line, they do have English speaking people design their packaging and manuals before they ship their products over seas for construction. I'm sure it will be UL and/or CE approved and on display at LDI.

Are we experiencing a time warp or something? My screen shows your post "Today at 6:48pm" and it's 5:56pm in Las Vegas. Seattle and Las Vegas used to be in the same time zone, did you move two hours east or did I move 2 hours west? I haven't seen the news, did California finally fall into the ocean? Do I now have beachfront property? Did "Climate Change" happen since noon this morning?

I wasn't "hurt" in the least by my "Chinese ebay" purchase. My little PARcan and I are very happy, thank you. Just that many of the venues I work have fire marshalls who want to see UL stickers on electrical equipment. As I've stated before UL is the agency responsible for hair dryers having to have labels that say "Do not use while showering."

Just my 2 cents.

Are they really that anal in vegas that they pull out a ladder and climb up to your electric to make sure they are labeled? I'm not sure how many par 64s I've ever seen labeled, or S4's over a year old with a sticker.

It's all part of the Metric conspiracy man. I have to keep moving. Watch your back, now you may know too much. Lock your door at night. Keep your gas tank full. They are here now, I must go. If I don't post again tell Grog "the orange penguin flies east when...

Yes they are. Or, if they don't feel like climbing, they simply they look in the UL "White Book" to see if the product is listed. Every piece of electrical equipment installed in Clark County NV must be Listed or Field Labeled by an NRTL.

wow, is this just for permanent installations which would be pretty reasonable or are temporary setups subject to the same rigorous standards?

Just looked over a bunch of Altman Pars. No sign of a UL sticker other than the ac cord. My little Chauvet does have one. (Unless ChinaCo is forging them) Hummm.. Don't remember the UL sticker on any of my Pyro squibs either ;)

Is that anything like the White Album? Do I have to buy that again? White Book, Pink Contract, Yellow Card, Black Listed. We're a colorful industry aren't we? What's the famous one that isn't, i.e. it's called the X-something, but it's actually Y. I'm not talking about Minus Green, which is Pink, either.
