Used Equipment

Does any body know of a good website to pick up used equipment through? At the moment i'm looking for an ETC Express console and the budget defiantly doesn't allow for the price new but if i can find it used for the right price it would be great.

It's for a church that i work part time for, among other jobs, that wants to upgrade into the world of a computerized type lighting board from an NSI 7532. There just starting to look at scrollers as well as some other LED fixtures and there really is no room for them to go with their current board. Luckily the entire system is DMX-512 based instead of microplex. I normally never buy used gear but a used easy to manage board like an express would be great for them and make me happy too.

What is the budget look like?

Between $2000-3000 some time after the first of the year

Im looking at the lower end consoles (the 24/48 and 125) which retail for about a grand more. Looks aren't as important as a working console.

I am about to suggest something that is going to sound odd, given another of my recent threads, but... That and given that I am probably about to start another console war thread.... You might want to visit this thread

You might also look into used Strand 300s. They fall in a similar price range, but if you really think that you are going to invest in LED fixtures, MLs, and scrollers, you will be much happier with the Strands ML package.

Here we go down the "is an Express easy to use with intelligent gear?" road again... I think you'll find all but one person on this board says "no". Got to agree with Alex the Strand 300 is much better suited for intelligent gear. On the flip side it's got a date with support death where ETC will be supporting Expresses for a MUCH longer time.

i recommend Limelight Productionshttp://www.limelightproductions.com/. they're based in Lee, MA but ship everywhere as far as i know. very reliable and good people. i know one of the guys that repairs and maintains the equipment in their rental division, and they are very good to their stuff and that's where any used equipment you'd get from them would be coming from. i looked around their website, and the only used board i could find was an ETC Obession 600 for 4k. but they've had a ton more previously. the last ETC Expression they sold was in your price range.

There does seem to be an artificially high price structure on the broker sites and much gear sits on them for months or even years,I buy off US Ebay and real prices are as low as 30% of broker prices, if you have seller with good feedback you are reasonably safe and I have not had any problem. If I did lose on a deal I would still have made enough on others to make it worthwhile, I have had excellent deals on soundbroker.com.As a rule if gear is old and not guaranteed it has to be cheap or don't buy it.

I like ebay too, but I've not seen many of the kind of console being sought.

But if you do find one there, paypal only. If it's not as advertised there's a better chance of getting a refund.

Spot on, soundlight! The definitive post. Answers exactly what the OP asked, and even within budget. If only you'd used that "chain link," it would have been A+, so I had to knock you down to an A. Can't wait to see your newest light show. And if you ask me, running movers on an Obsession isn't that much easier than on an Express. As I've said before, there could be a place at a Pirate Show or other attraction in your future. Learn Show Control, as it is the future of our industry, along with the other buzzword: convergence.

How is a fence going to help?

You probably mean a TinyURL correct?

I was in too much of a rush to do [ url ] tags or a tinyURL, that was what I call a "hit and run" post.

Also, I forget which site it was on, but someone (who must be crazy) was selling an express 250 for $2K, with a monitor and Anvil case. It was in like-new condition, from his description and the pics. It probably sold really fast.

That makes me suspicious, if only for the fact that an Anvil case of that size in decent condition could go for 4-600 dollars.

The post said something about needing to move it fast to get the rest of the money for a new board. Could've been stolen.
