Laugh of the Day

Hmm, you wonder, did he just got down to the shop and buy a used Par can? How much is a par worth anyway? Not $293, though I guess that's including the tripod.

That's a telescope tripod. The rings in the center support are for the various lenses for the telescope. That's a funny one - just had to find a can without gel frame clips and rewire it with a PAR38 base and pull a tripod out of the attic. And they want to sell it for almost $300US???? If someone bites on that one, I think that I have a business plan. Holy sh*t man, holy sh*t.

Derek... if you get your table lamp silver plated you could be king of a new industry.

"This lamps character has been retained through the marks and dents it has collected during it's professional life."

I like that line. Thinking I'l change it slightly and use it as a sig.

I love it! That line is what really caught my eye as well.
" It's really a POS par can, but you can own it for $500.00 US"
Is this guy serious? I have to go check out his "store" now to see his other reconditioned gear.

Ebay can be an odd place. Recently expired, with no bids, was an Altman 20" Scoop for $5. Fair enough, but shipping was $104! I have to think the ones really making a killing on internet commerce are the carriers: USPS, UPS, FedEx, DHL, etc.

Hey, don't blame the seller, blame the idiot who actually buys it. If this guy wants to make some profit of something that cost him maybe 40 bucks...why not? But the thought that someone would actually buy it for that price......

I know someone who, apparently recently made hundreds of dollars on ebay. (He is also a suspected compulsive liar.)

Assuming he actually did what he claims, he purchased several copies of a recent video game, put the auction up and set the title to something slightly misleading. Tons of parents desperate for their kids "perfect xmas gift" searched through ebay, the stupid ones bought the wrong game for 3x its value. (I believe he mentioned the trick is setting it as a "Buy It Now" auction, that gives them no chance to think / bid about it, they just buy it on an impulse, hoping to still get that "great deal". I think it's underhanded... but he DID make hundreds.

Oh my. People are falling for this. I feel like contacting them and telling them how much they got ripped off.

<The lamp is made of aluminium and chromed to a high shine.>

And I'm sure the manufacturer had the aluminum PAR chromed! Polished maybe, but doubtful it has been chromed.

Argh...

Item sold for US $239.23. We are in the wrong business! A used, beat up PAR56 can without colorframe holders that one can buy new for <$50 plus a telescope stand sells for $240! What's wrong with those Brits?

SERIOUSLY.

Man i have some old thomas par cans that were actually rolled and pinch welded. They have the old metal clip that holds the back on rather than the newer spring loaded thumb thingy. Bet if i mount that to a nice wooden eazle stand i could make at least 600

Why limit yourself? Go for the big bucks with a BUY NOW of $750!

Seriously though- when selling a good condition, older lawn tractor/mower, several people stopped to look it over but none bit. When I raised the price 30% it flew off the yard! The consumer assumed the mower was not a very good quality piece because the price was too low. (I really wanted to sell it to make room in the garage for the new mower I had purchased.) When the price met the pre-supposed value of a good condition mower- away it went!

So polish off your old PAR cans and 'borrow' your neighbor's telescope stand. There is an untapped market out there with MONEY TO BURN!!!

Reminds me of when I put two old 10 speed bikes out by my mail box with a sign that said "Free" they sat there for 2 weeks. I put a sign out that said "$20.00 each or both for $30.00" they were stolen that night.
