Our local theatrical supplier is carrying Apollo along with Rosco, Lee and Gam..

Nice palate of colors.... They have a green I have been looking for to change our green in the cyc lights.. Hope it lasts as long as the lux..

Re: Apollo color media.. nice palatte.

Numbers please. Are you currently using X90 or X91? And what do you want to change to? I've always used the cyc diffusions or cyc silks whenever possible.

sloop, I think you missed our chocolate thread. Since you're old(er), I'm betting you're for it.

Was going to say something about it's great that you have a stocking dealer, but them realized you could get any color you wanted by driving less than two hours. Heck, if it was important, Kelite would probably even meet you halfway in Gas City. I wonder if that guy in Lima, OH, uses ApolloGel?

So yes, throw all those other brands away and support your local economy; and enjoy the advantages of the only numbering system that makes sense. (But being the same age as me, you still know the Lene and Cinemoid numbers, right?)

Oh man, forgot about Cinemoid. Never delt with Lene. I have my stuffed shipped in. It's overnight and I don't have to go to Indy..
I am NOT a fan of Chocolate gel. I don't have a lot of use for it. I used to when I had limited dimmers, but with dimmer per circuit I never use it.

I am using a mix of brands.. Roscolux will always live in my gel cabs..Gam has some great warm tones and lavs. On the cyc, going from the X91 to Apollo 5400. It's just a little richer to my eye.. Our cyc lights are so smooth diffusion isn't needed. Sure beats the old strip lights(which we still have on the floor if needed...)

It's encouraging to know your local theatrical dealer keeps some Apollo Gel stocked for your last minute needs, as drop-shipping works very well (WHEN you have that kind of time). I would say a side trip to Gas City would make a nice afternoon 'diversion' from the rigors of daily gel stuffing and envelope licking.... :)

Thanks for trying our gel Sloop, we have been pleased with the growth of the product line!

...On the cyc, going from the X91 to Apollo 5400...
If you find AP5400 burns/fades faster than X91, let us know that also. Are these fixtures Iris Cyc Lights? (the only 1-2K unit you can get THREE cuts from one 20"X24" sheet) or something else? What blue are you currently using and how does that hold up?

Yes, please let us know the actual gel frame size as this gel is also available in 24 x 24 inch sheets, possibly allowing for an additional cut....

Don't remember the exact size I think they are 12"x15". We have been using X83. It matches the blue rondels we have the floor to a T and is lasting quite nicely.
Our biggest problem is we like X80 in our backlights(2K fresnels) for a lot of shows and it burns out fairly quickly. We tried heat shield etc. just burns it too. we can generally get 2 evenings on heavily used instruments then we have to swap it out. It is a dark color, but it gives us what we want, especially for dance where we run either 2 or 3 color backlight.

i will let you know how the 5400 does.. Thanks for giving us another option!
