Y'know...I was starting to wonder why that particular GnR riot (there was more than one on that tour) was a topic, as if many of you here had just found out about it.
Then I looked at Hughsie's year of birth. And my bones started to creak.
So, just to make me look even more ancient: (a teenage-ness in the 80's)
I was 15 when Warrant showed up in Hollywood. Poison had only been in town a year at that
point I think. WASP was still throwing raw meat at their crowds.
Van Halen,
house band at Gazzarri's. Never got in there.
I saw GnR at Fender's
Ballroom in Long Beach in 86. Capacity 300.
Seen Judas Priest with Rob Halford, Ripper Owens, and then Rob Halford again.
Metallica used to live in Downey, Ca. Many friends had "No Life til Leather", dubbed numerous times. I wasn't that smart.
Walked into a record store in 88, and picked up a double vinyl GnR bootleg. It contained demo's of "Shadow of Your Love" and TWO versions of "November Rain", without completed lyrics. (among other stuff) One is Axl on piano only, the other with Axl singing, Slash on acoustic 6 string.
Chili Peppers opening for Bad Brains at CSU Long Beach in 89 in the student union
ballroom.
Black Flag and their label, SST, was about 2 miles from my
house. NEVER saw Rollins, Ginn, or any of those guys around strangely enough.
Oh, and Metallica at Monsters of Rock at the LA Coliseum where Jaymz says "Hey! Why don't you all come down front!" and 70,000 rush the
stage. LAPD said "F*ck it" and bailed out.
Am I geezer enough?
