Imagine Tech'n this

by the look of it, they lost everything, even the large par can rig appared to have been *bumped out*

That's the problem, you put some of these characters up on stage in front of thousands and they start thinking they are some form of god. It is the rest of us who suffer due their actions, from renters to roadies. There is an unwritten rule that ends up written in some of our blood, "If you pay to see a show, you expect to see a show." Most of the riots I have lived through have to do with some performer who walks mid show. At that point, the audience is cranked. It does not take much for it to turn around and get ugly. His little temper tantrum was the direct cause of the riot. You can debate the contract and the claims of poor venue security, but that riot would not have happened if he hadn't walked. I believe that performers need to be held responsible for the fact that their actions can cause direct injury because they can.

It's not the first riot to happen there either, Green day nearly incited one at the same exact venue in 1997, when they set their amps and drum kit on fire. They were not allowed in St. Louis for 6-7 years.

Oh St. Louis, how I love thee.

With some gigs where I worry about something happening I've started demanding that clients pay for me to bring an extra person in case I need to load out really fast for some reason.

um. Why didn't the tech guys turn off all of the lights, and/or send some horrible feedback through the sound system? That's what i would have done.

I don't know, maybe because it's unprofessional?

Okay, maybe the overwhelming feedback was a little over the top, but I think professional went out the door when he threw that mic on the stage.

If something like that were to happen to my rig (A. Always have show insurance), But then i'm sure my guys would lock me in the truck because they know i'd be ready to kill someone. Kind of reminds me why i'm not allowed to work with collective soul anymore........... (unless they got a new monitor engineer)

truss spotting that,

arghhhhhhhhhh because they would have tried to shake it

poor guys

Y'know...I was starting to wonder why that particular GnR riot (there was more than one on that tour) was a topic, as if many of you here had just found out about it.

Then I looked at Hughsie's year of birth. And my bones started to creak.

So, just to make me look even more ancient: (a teenage-ness in the 80's)
I was 15 when Warrant showed up in Hollywood. Poison had only been in town a year at that point I think. WASP was still throwing raw meat at their crowds.

Van Halen, house band at Gazzarri's. Never got in there. :(

I saw GnR at Fender's Ballroom in Long Beach in 86. Capacity 300.

Seen Judas Priest with Rob Halford, Ripper Owens, and then Rob Halford again.

Metallica used to live in Downey, Ca. Many friends had "No Life til Leather", dubbed numerous times. I wasn't that smart.

Walked into a record store in 88, and picked up a double vinyl GnR bootleg. It contained demo's of "Shadow of Your Love" and TWO versions of "November Rain", without completed lyrics. (among other stuff) One is Axl on piano only, the other with Axl singing, Slash on acoustic 6 string.

Chili Peppers opening for Bad Brains at CSU Long Beach in 89 in the student union ballroom.

Black Flag and their label, SST, was about 2 miles from my house. NEVER saw Rollins, Ginn, or any of those guys around strangely enough.

Oh, and Metallica at Monsters of Rock at the LA Coliseum where Jaymz says "Hey! Why don't you all come down front!" and 70,000 rush the stage. LAPD said "F*ck it" and bailed out.

Am I geezer enough?

I just had a chance to watch that tonight and wow, I'm gonna have to ask some of the older guys if they worked that show, I bet they have some good stories.

yeah the words axl rose and professional don't ever come together do they :)

i would love to hear some old touring stories, but maybe they should be put in the off topic section, already have one current infraction for trash talking

Yea, but Social D's still around, that's not fair.
