Lightronics, I ask you...

I noticed those on the lightronics website the other day and said the same thing...
And then all of us that were at work that day laughed almost as hard as when Elation released theirs back in 2006.

That looks like a revolutionary new stage lighting fixture. How much are they and where can I buy some?

<now resetting the Wayback Machine from 1992 to 2008.>

Ok, it honestly looks like somebody got ahold of a picture of an ETC fixture and put it on the website. Really now?

I am not a lightronics fan at all. Their tech support is beyond crap. I have one of their dimmers that will keep rebooting until you feed it dmx. While i was sitting there in the shop with this happening all the guy could tell me is that is impossible. I finally told him I will pay for him to fly his happy ***** down here and prove to me i'm lying while i'm watching this happen. Another guy acted like i was retarted when i called to order some new SCR's i also specified SSR's he was like what are those used for. Then when we were looking at buying a new lightronics rack they acted like we had really lost our mind when we told them we wanted a patch bay. They just kept on saying you can just softpatch it. I cant softpatch two soco outputs onto one dimmer! So i'm not buying any more lightronics at all.

Their head of R&D has been seen regularly at the local Radio Shack in Virgina Beach, according to someone who lives there.

yeah... I've seen him there too. With his mom of all people.
Sad to say. But about this new fixture...
personaly I've been waiting for a furrier instrument to hit the market for years. And the barrel not only rotates, it Purrs! My only question is, are we looking at the base, cause if we are then won't the light........never mind.

Much love
Goph

I've got to agree, add another knob to the barrel just to make it more annoying when you're all streached out and the LD goes oh you pushed it out to far you think you can bring it back a little. and take away the accessory slot. OH BUT YOU CAN GET IT IN WHITE. (probably a ETC option but it's not listed on their site and I've never seen one)

The least they could do would be have a name for it thats not to generic.

RadioShack is full of people that don't know a **** thing about what they sell. Most unhelpful employees ever.

They have been making white source fours for a long time, they are used often in church installs and architectural installs. There was a show a while back, I wanna say it was mama mia that had a white powder coated truss, white source fours on it, and specially done white autoyokes on it.

I remember back when radio primairly only sold components. And if you had a design problem, they would have a good solution. Unfortunately you dont have that anymore. Now its just guys who have no clue about anything. You ask them for a 1/4" to 1/8" adapter they look at you like your from mars. I was doing a show in a small town outside of houston, and the audio guy needed some weird adapters he forgot. He started raddling off a list to the store guy and he was grabbing exactly what the guy needed and before even looking at it asked him how long he needed and different options they had. I told the guy he was the most helpful radio shack guy i have come across in many years.

1/4" to 1/8"? Try asking about SPDT versus SPST switches. I was in there once for that. It looks like whoever packages this stuff for RadioShack messed up a shipment, because there only appeared to be a single throw. I asked for a second opinion...

That components "cart" you see in a RadioShack is always disorganized. They don't know what they're sorting. The RadioShack near me in the past week has taken to leaving two overflowing cardboard boxes of components next to the cart: want something? Start digging.

That is why we have several options on line for electronic component ordering.

So having just spent the last few years in state purchasing specification hell. These are really interesting. What happens is when you send a package out to bid you can't just say I want to buy S4's only. You have to list all the physical specifications that are needed for your application. If you don't have the right list of specifications then a vendor can bid a cheaper product that matches your specs and you get one of these pieces of crap. I worked VERY hard studying every product on the market to make sure there was no way any other lighting instrument matched my specifications. These will just make it that much harder. There will be a lot of schools out there who bid the basic specs thinking they are getting a S4 (interchangeable barrel, glass reflector, tool free lamp replacement and focus) and they'll get Lighttronics instead now. (For anyone in the bid process the key is the lamp. Convince the powers that be that the only acceptable lamp for your application is the HPL based on it's superior output efficiency, color temperature, and life).

By the way, somebody around CB works for the Shack... can't remember who but I'm sure they are a knowledgeable upstanding citizen not like the goobers mentioned above.

Also those white S4's are cool. Look like something a Storm Trooper would carry.

You think white Source 4's are cool?

A certain "Conservatory" in Las Vegas has 200 S4s and 100 S4-PARs, painted "verti-grayed" (matches Statue of Liberty).

BTT: Why does the Lightronics version have the "integral safety attachment point" on the bottom of the fixture? Why two knobs, top and bottom, for lens focus? I don't see any mention of a drop-in iris or accessory slot. Still, to me, the fixture looks better than a Shakespeare.
