grandMA2

With the introduction of grandMA2 series, MA Lighting consequently supplements
and develops its successful grandMA system even further. grandMA2 comes with
completely new designed hardwares supporting the grandMA software as well as
all current and proposed lighting control standards.

Listening closely to the market MA Lighting kept the intuitive grandMA control philosophy
including the same command line and syntax. However MA cleaned up, improved and
extended the software, optimized colours and views. The advanced networking
architecture is getting even more powerful and allows finally compatibility with the
“old” grandMAs.

Independent from upser interfaces, for theatre-style programming or a concert touring
multi-user programming session, grandMA2 suits it all and includes also fader wings,
that give up to 90 faders per console. New ways of architectural interconnection are
also possible

That's a friggin sweeeet console. I want one!!!! Dream on, dream on... But 256 DMX universes, holy crap! That's insane! Now I'd like to know how many universes are flying around in a show TSO or The Police that uses huge numbers of LED components.

I like the idea of having a pair of drawers in the console in which to store all of your cables, pens, pencils, and paper. I also like the fact that more and more companies (Now including MA Lighting!) are switching over to Neutrik Powercon as their power connection.

mmmmmmmmnewMAmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm **** I'm in the wrong town right now.

It definitely looks interesting. I really like the fact though, that they are going to keep developing the Series 1 line right along with the GMA2. How much they do remains to be seen, but seeings as that you can easily port a show from one to the other, it begs to reason that they should continue along in a very similar fashion.

Most interesting indeed.

That is sweet. A local church here in town just bought 8 mac 2k's and a grandma. I told them they were buying an old light, and i had a feeling it was about time for the grandma to have a major makeover. Think about how many years it has been out on the market and look what happens. I love being right. I told them to go with the clay paky alphas or robe1200 over the pos mac2k.

Not sure about those two, but the last Madonna tour used 26 universes.

grandMA2: One should expect nothing less from MA Lighting. Rumor has it this system runs on Linux instead of VX Works. Just a rumor, not confirmed. This year's LDI is going to be a good one! Make plans now: Las Vegas, Oct. 14-19.

holy craaaaaap.

Definitely a great looking board; competes with the Maxxyz on the aesthetic beauty part, though I'd have to see the MA2 lit up for a decision. (Speaking of which, silent keys? Hope they still have good tactile response.)

What interests me most is definitely the internal multi-touch screen. Multi-touch has been increasing intuititiveness (intuition?) by leaps and bounds via innovations like those from Apple, I'd be really interested to see how the MA2 incorporates the multi-touch into control.

Also interested in the cost of a MA2 ultra-light to a Series 1 ultra-light. The MA2 looks a lot beefier/nicer, hope the price is still low enough to fall into the same range (this is my same beef with the ION versus the Express).

But still. holy craaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaap.

No mention anywhere of an onPC version. I've been toying with the idea of getting myself a PC console of my own some sort if I were to go freelance, but now it seems I have another variable to deal with. I suppose I'm in no rush at this point, but still, I hope to be able to see just what the MA2 is going to bring to the table myself without too much waiting.

All the cool kids are doing it.;)
(all current products are Powercon with no switches)

I like Powercon as much as the rest of you, especially now it comes in 32 amp as well, but don't forget that UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES WHATSOEVER can powercon be connected or disconnected while under load. The connector is not rated to handle it and at least in Aus is not legal for use as a general purpose mains connector. The importers had some difficulty in getting import approval for it and it is STRICTLY for specialised industrial use only.

Now if Neutrik could come up with a version that has in built breaking capability - maybe a hard switch linking the the rotation of the plug in the keyway, then life would be much simpler...

Does this mean that there will now be some grandMas on the used market?

Looks like they will keep selling, developing and supporting GrandMa 1's for sometime. Yes like anything you will see more on the used market. I do belive the price will stay with-in the same range though due to the quality of the product.

I'm actually working on that idea with several EE's.

I thought about starting a new topic, but we really don't have a power forum... Maybe CBv3?

The trick would be that to be able to legally use it down here, it needs to comply with AS/NZS 3002:2002 (Though soon to be 2008). To do that, it needs to be double pole switched, ie. switching both active and neutral conductors... When you find a way of breaking 20A, double pole, and staying within a D size footprint, then you'll be doing quite nicely... Likewise for the 32A version...
