Hello everyone! I just joined this forum a couple of days ago and now having trolled around reading back threads I thought it was time to introduce myself. My name is Levi, and I am from Minneapolis, Minnesota. I currently do freelance and over-hire work in the area, primarily of an A/V rental nature, with one anchor client that I work for regularly and others that come and go. I study Electrical Engineering and am in my junior year. I got my start doing theatre tech work back in elementary school in approximately 4th grade, when I was called upon to do "sound effects" for a all-school Christmas program/pageant. By the end of the first rehearsal I was making suggestions to the director (the music teacher) as to how to better use the microphones on stage and adjusting the sound system. Since then I have done theatre tech all through middle school and high school, adding video/broadcast to my repertoire. Throughout this time I have been simultaneously honing my skills in the IT/computer field, my other major interest area. I have done a little bit of everything in theatre tech, from lights to sound, set construction to console operation to operating as a house-tech for road shows. There isn't much I haven't at least dabbled in, though I love to find things to enhance my experience. My favorite area to work in is live sound, with a second being closed-circuit video and embedding multimedia seamlessly into shows in a large scale fashion.
This looks like a very fun group to be a member of with a bunch of very skilled and experienced people posting here every day. I look forward to being a part of the discussion!

Welcome to the Booth Mnfreelancer! It sounds like you've got this place pretty well figured out. Lots of fun people to hang out with, a wealth of knowledge, use the search button, great archived articles... you missed one however. Watch out for the Australians! They are trying to take over the world... one small fluffy animal at a time.

One small fluffy animal? Are we talking about ginger soy sauce again? I'm confused...

Welcome to CB, MN! You've certainly picked up on our number. There is just so much info here that it's like an addictive, but strangely comforting drug. Whoops, having a 60's flashback - sorry...

Never be afraid to ask a question (after doing a seach, of course) or offer advice, even a tech who's worked one show has something to offer here.

Have fun and jump in!

Dude it's like four AM there now and you're still on line... I thought I was crazy for still being up a 2am. Go to bed!

And, Gaff, that's when I'm getting up(at 4 a.m.). Nothing like being raised on a farm to screw up the internal clock or a techie - it only stinks when I'm in active rehearsal...which starts on Monday...again...

Sleep tight, G Man
