Spot Light too bright...

Ok, so i'm having an issue with our spot lights being too bright for our space...

We have spot lights that run at 10000w and in a 237 seat house they are a little overpowering...

Does anyone have any tips or tricks to bring them down a bit on intensity without using the douser?

This is for the show Swingtime Canteen and the rest of our stock is 750w ETC units.

its an exaggeration, however its what it feels like. I haven't pulled them apart to see what it is. But color temperature wise it feels that way. They are probably more like 2000w or 2500w

What make and model are they? that would be helpful information. Different spotlight douse via different methods and it would help to know what way your specific spotlight douses before any one can make any really useful reccomendations....

Ok, so i just pulled the spec sheets from the spots. They are Lycian 1.2 Superstars. so they are actually 1200w lamps.

ND from a supplier of your choice taped to the front or loaded in the boomerang will be the easiest. Sometimes you can trim the ballast to get a simiuler effect but thats not the easiest way.

Well, since you DON'T want to use the dowsers, I'd suggest trying some Neutral Density filters. Look at Rosco 97, 397, 98 and 398

Also, using color correction filters to bring down the color temperature of your spots might help them seem less harsh. Look at the amber and pink gels in the front of a Rosco swatchbook. I will have to see what lamps those spots use in order to figure out what their color temperature is, and thus what gels would work best. Do you know/can you find out what lamps are in your spots?

Time to whip out the netural density or some r97/98. That gel will cut the intensity of the light without the need for dimming.
You might also want to color correct to 3200k to cut some intensity as well and not stand out as much.

And it would be dimmer without using the douser!
