Automated Fixtures Palette & LED Par 64's

I've been lent some LED Pars made (and this could be the problem) in the Peoples Republic Of China. I'm having difficulty getting the PAlette to Talk to them. I've tried using some of the led par fixtures from the Fixture Library that match the number of att. channels (6). They come up but are going through this constant set pattern and I don't have control over them.
ANY suggestions would be appreciated. Cheers PJ.

The attributes are probably laid out differently. Set it to simply be dimmer channels, put them on subs, and see if you can control them that way. I'm almost positive that your attributes are out of order with the attributes on the actual fixture and have different values. Almost all manufacturers have different orders and different values for their channels.

Also, make sure that the LED pars are in DMX mode, not sequence/internal program mode.

Thanks for the speedy response. With regard to putting them on subs, if they use six att channels do I make them all dimmer starting at the address channel? eg 50 thru 55. I haven't used LED's of any sort before and the Palette is new so I'm still getting my head around it. If it was a 520i I'd just write a fixture lib. for them.

I'll try 4 attributes and see how I go. Any suggestions for putting them on subs as mentioned by Soundlight.

sure, it isn't much different than your 520. Address the fixture (on the fixture) then patch each address of the fixture to it's own channel. Then put each of those channels on a sub, once you figure out what channel does what, then you can find a fixture in the library that will work. Also, you may have to set the LEDs to DMX mode. Many fixtures have a stand alone mode that either runs pre-programmed effects or is audio active. Sometimes you have to turn that off.

Thanks Alex et al. I'm about to go into the theatre so I'll try it out. The warning bells re product from the PRC should have gone off when i found out the DMX input / output labels were reversed.

What do people think of the Palette? 90 percent of the theatres in Aus. still have 500 & 300 and the feeling I get is they won't be buying Palettes any time soon.

While I have yet to sit down in front of one, I have heard good things. The big thing is that the new generation of consoles is much more flexible and open for the end user, you aren't locked into one way to do things, and if there are features that a large number of users want they can be added to the software.

As far as the old 300/500s, they will be officially not supported by Strand in a few years, so eventually people will upgrade.

I'm very happy with my Classic Palette. It's a really nice console... I've still got a way to go to wrapping my brain around some of the more complicated functions. Check out the official Strand/Horizon website for more detailed help at: strand-dev.com • Index page The guys who write the software are regularly posting there.

I know your Pars are Chinese so this is asking a lot, but if you can find the actual specs, e-mail them to: [email protected] and ask them to build you a profile. My profile requests have been filled in 12-36 hours so far.

Thanks for the lead Gaf. I can hopefully get at least a brand name from the supplier. There's no name on the can itself.

I'll bet it's nothing to do with the desk, but the fixtures themselves. A lot of them use the same 10 switch dip module made by a company in China. I can't remember the name, but when I tried looking up their website I was warned off by Google, saying the site may have a virus.

Anyway, switch 10 has to be on to make them dmx-able. Otherwise, the fixture will take the first 9 dip switches and use that as code for an internal scene or chase.

Try that.
