Design Lightwright™; where to buy?

Im going to be purchasing lightwright the full license (not student). Iv been looking around and it seems like it is normally sold for about $450 (Vincent, and other) but I found it at Quality Theatrical Supplies and Equipment?Production Advantage, Inc. for only $350.

So here is a few of my questions. How do you receive the upgrades, and also Do you think is all right to purchase it from not a very well known web site?

Any info would be appreciated

Production advantage is VERY VERY well known throughout the theatre community. I tend to buy nearly all my expendables through them, they are great people. They just recently started up online sales, they have been doing phone sales for years. They are made up of a group of theatre people that wanted to get out of the life, so they started up a supply company in Vermont so they could get away. If you call durring the right time of year, and have a good relationship with your sales agent, sometimes they will even through in some fresh maple syrup.

Also, John McKernon handles all of the updates through his site. When 5 comes out (who knows when....) you will have to buy an upgrade to get it.

Any authorized dealer of City Theatrical products can sell Lightwright™. Upon registration with the author, an unlock keycode is sent to you. I suggest attempting to make friends with your local theatrical supply company and see if they will price match what you find online. John McKernon provides excellent customer support for this product, so where you purchase it is not an issue. Upon registration, you're automatically on the list for upgrades and bug fixes.

However, will the online vendor be there to help you at 6pm on a Saturday for an 8pm show when you need a lamp or a gel or a control console? All MSRPs are negotiable, but personal relationships are often more valuable than money.

Yea, I'm not sure where you are located but give you local vendor a call and tell them the price that you have found online. There is nothing better NOTHING better then kindeling that relationship. If you have someone that you work with often they might give you a break. If not, go with the BMI or ProductionAdvantage. They are repuitable.

Wait, didn't you say in another thread that you're a lighting design student?? If so, why not get the Student License? It's exactly the same thing just cheaper. Production Advantage sells the student license too, you just have to send them a copy of your student ID. Totally recommend Production Advantage by the way. They're awesome.

When I purchased mine, I went through BMI Supply. They were cheaper than anyone I was able to find...however mine is the student edition.

I am a student but I have the funds now to get the full license and when im no longer a student I dont want people to chastise me for using a student price program while im not a student.

People wont care, as long as your not ALD for John. I can't tell you how many people I work with that have *insert university they graduated from 5 years ago here* as their ppwk (Not the best thing to do, but it is done). You can easily upgrade to a full license later, and if you shop around a bit I want to say it ends up being a few bucks cheaper to go this route, not much but some.

Here, here to Production Advantage. Great people to work with. I only switched to Barbizon when they opened a local office in Phoenix. Now that I'm in Vegas, I migh switch back! Fun thing is that when I run into them at LDI, I enjoy pointing things out that I think they should carry (which they usually share the same feelings).
