Correct Spelling and Grammar on ControlBooth is a vitally important thing for all members to use as you never know who will be looking at your post and your replies.

MSN Speak/Text Speak/IM Speak
There is an unwritten law on ControlBooth that states that this disgusting shorthand language should not be used in any way or form in posts or threads. The first reason is because it looks ugly; and the second is, if you ask questions formally you are going to get a better formal answer with a lot more detail, as people will take the time to add more detail; but if you have not, people may read the thread and not waste their time.

Example
"Plez help mi my ld desk don't work cus my friend and i were lol'ing at all the pretty colours and it broke and we were like omg whats have we done"

that made me feel dirty inside typing it.

Proper Example
"Hello. Would you mind offering some advice on troubleshooting a Jands Hog 250 as i was playing with it and suddenly the screen wouldn't turn on?"

Firstly in this response the person has given us a lot more detail into what the problem is and has also given us the brand name of the desk and the model which helps us reply to your thread much quicker as we don't have to ask what brand it is. Also they gave us a bit of information on what the problem was: "the screen doesn't work" in an issue like this we would ask have they checked the cables, with the previous answer we have no idea what you have done and can't really help and with language like that some of us just wouldn't bother to help.

MSN Speak/Text Speak/IM Speak Part 2
Another reason for not using MSN Speak in a formal forum environment is that some schools use software to filter websites that they don't deem appropriate, words such as those that fall into the MSN/Teenspeak catagory have been known to be in the dictionary of sites to block if they feature this language.

If you are having problems spelling, download and use Firefox, which has a built in spell-checker just like Microsoft Office, Open Office, and Appleworks.

For help with specific theatre brands and terms, see the entry: Spelling.
