Design Game show lighting with low ceiling

I may have slightly underestimated the ceiling height, thinking about it. I saw a stagger-run of the show yesterday, and the host was able to walk under the lights that were there (currently some 1kw fresnels). I won't say there was _much_ clearance, but he wasn't in danger of hitting his head...

Design Game show lighting with low ceiling

Hi! I'm doing a lighting design for a play that takes place entirely on a game show set. The problem is we're in a venue with a very low ceiling (maybe 3m from stage level), and they have a couple of specific requirements.I made a sketch above of the set. There are 13 contestants, and they...

Using ladders in a set design

I once produced a version of Pirates of Penzance that had a ladder as part of the set:You can see the ladder at the back, coming down from an upper floor window. Here's a shot of people climbing down — sorry for bad photo angle, this is a still from a video taken from the lighting box...

    Advice for Purchasing Moving Lights

I can't see what you would do with one. However it depends what you're hoping to use the movers for, and what other lights you have available. If budget is low, I'd suggest not getting any movers, and making sure your rig is up to scratch with wash lights and a few specials. You can always hire...

    Showtec Compact PAR 60W COB?

Ah, brilliant. I'm currently thinking of using four of them to light a 6m x 5m stage (three as top wash, making three areas across the stage, and one upstage as backlight), hung at a height of about 4.5m. Does this sound a reasonable plan? I'll also have front wash from conventionals, and a...

    Showtec Compact PAR 60W COB?

That sounds great actually. I’ve done the calculations and 80 degrees would work. Have you used this fixture?

    Showtec Compact PAR 60W COB?

Has anyone any experience of this fixture?https://www.thomann.de/ie/showtec_compact_par_60_cob_rgbw.htm?glp=1I'm looking for something cheap with a very wide beam angle (for washes on small stages without much throw distance). The 120° beam angle is attracting me here (and the fact that you...

How accurate are EOS's filter colour presets?

Apple solved this problem for computer hardware with ColorSync. I wonder if there would be takeup of a hardware system for calibrating lights (a calibrated digital camera plus a white reflective board, plus clever software that measures the light’s response to different RGB values)? We’d need a...

How accurate are EOS's filter colour presets?

It's not just the on-monitor representation though, I was genuinely surprised that a cool colour like L061 would have more red than blue in it.As soon as I'm next home (in a week or two… lots of travelling at the moment!) I'll throw up a fresnel and an LED PAR and compare.

How accurate are EOS's filter colour presets?

I guess I'm most used to something like a Harmony F or a S4 PAR, for my cool washes :)

How accurate are EOS's filter colour presets?

I'm playing with ETC Nomad, and took a look at the filter library. Some of the colours seem rather odd to me.For example, L061 "cool mist", which I know as a very subtle cool wash. When patched to a generic LED PAR, EOS seems to suggest it as R100, G94, B68, which to me seems far too warm for...

Simple freestanding backdrops — scene changes?

I'm considering set for a pantomime. We perform in a village hall, there's a stage with a proscenium, but no facilities for hanging/flying anything, and not much wing space. The stage is about 7m wide.We need three scenes: town, forest and inside the castle.Initially I'd thought we could...
