1:1 patch: Do you use it?

I felt that way, but now that we are ready to buy a board without them, have stopped using ours and only using the subs and keypad. Although it takes some adjusting, I can't say that I truely MISS them, just that I have to spend slightly more though on the new system which I have not used for...

Channel levels by slider or keypad entry?

The reason that I asked was because I was tought to put all dimmers that light the same area on one channel (i.e. DSR white is channel one, DSC white is channel 2, DSL white is channel 3, etc). From listening to your conversations, this seems to be how you guys use your subs.

1:1 patch: Do you use it?

sorry, I was asking about softpatching on the console. I didn't know that people still used hardpatching. We have a Strand CD80 rack and a Strand lightboard M - both from 1987 - and we still only use soft patching.

1:1 patch: Do you use it?

How do you guys use your subs if you already have zone patch?

Channel levels by slider or keypad entry?

I made a poll here: http://www.controlbooth.com/forums/lighting/10703-1-1-patch-do-you-use.html to find out what others use, so as not to clog up this thread.

1:1 patch: Do you use it?

I'm just checking how many people use 1:1 patch for their consoles vs puting all whites that point to downstage left, etc, on a channel. Feel free to post if you think that it will provide more insight than your vote in the poll.

    Analog Dimmer Board

Your best bet would be to get a converter. I think the 501IF from NSI Converters, Splitters and Mergers (near the bottom) does what you need, but double check before buying. It's just under $400 before about $20 shipping.

Channel levels by slider or keypad entry?

That explains a lot! I was assuming that everyone was using channels the way that I use them, and was therefore hesitant to get a board without manual channel faders. *Face-palm!* Now the ETC Ion is looking much more attractive!

Channel levels by slider or keypad entry?

So does that mean your dimmers:channels are 1:1?Perhaps I did not make it clear in my other post, but ours are not. We have dimmers grouped into channels based on what they DO. Is that how you use your subs?

Channel levels by slider or keypad entry?

From reading these posts (which were originally in answer to my question about what new board to get for a high school) it seems that we uses channels in the way tham most of you use subs. For example, channel 1 (for us) is white light, downstage right, 2 is downstage center, 12 is red cycs...

New light board for a high school

Of the consoles that we have been looking at, the preset Palette II is the only one have has manual channel faders, the others only have subs. Do you guys think that keeping manual faders for a high school is extremely important, or do know of high schools which solely use keypad entry? Again, I...

New light board for a high school

sorry, I should have been more clear. I can't find the original STRAND retrofit card, I already have a quote for the Johnson Systems one, I'm just checking if the Strand still exists and would be cheaper.

New light board for a high school

Do you know where I could find information about this retrofit kit? I have looked online, including on Strand's site, but to no avail. We have the original CD80 AMX rack with 96 dimmers.

New light board for a high school

Thanks very much gafftaper for your informative post. I just have two questions which came up. First, someone told me that the preset Palette does not use a keyboard, while the other Palettes do. Is this true, and if so, why? Second, what is the difference between the Palettes and the Palette...
