    Charc's College Thread

Oberlin's my top choice currently, but I'm only planning on being involved in theater as an extra-curricular or minor, I'm majoring in biology. Of course I haven't heard if I've gotten in yet, but I've got my fingers crossed!

    Your worst theatre injury

Not that this is precisely what this thread is asking... but any advice for an accident prone kid? Last show he banged his head into our sound storage cabinent and got a few stitches on his forehead, this show he fell off a ladder (possible wrist injury, i'm not sure, it happened today). I keep...

Where do you call your shows from? (High school especially)

The SM at my school calls from the balcony also. We don't have a booth really... the balcony acts as our booth. There wouldn't be any room backstage for the SM in our current set up. We haven't had trouble with the audience hearing the SM and getting distracted, so I think it's a good set up...

    Application/Resume Question

I do understand that colleges are, to an extent, a business, and they must look out for those students most likely to be a waste of their money. What I was saying is not that they disreguard these numbers, because (most) do take them into account, but that they don't necessarily place the most...

    Application/Resume Question

Not all colleges place the most weight on scores and class rank... Some schools don't even require you to submit scores. It's not all propaganda when they say that colleges are moving towards a more holistic view of applicants.

    Organizing run crew?

I can't agree enough with not yelling at the crew. No high schooler (myself included) wants to be yelled at for forgetting something, and it's more likely to make them forget it again (because now they're hyper worried). Do as many runs of each transition as possible. With my last show, I...

    Your worst theatre injury

My worst theater injury had little to do with theater but occured in one on my way in for the day. (and it was really dumb). My friend used to walk along the arm rests in the house, and I'd hold her hand to make sure she didn't fall. Of course one day she did, and didn't let go of my hand. My...

    A lonely door

When we had free standing doors for our production of The Crucible (we had 4 of them, one for each act) we built frames on small bases of ply and put two pieces of ply (cut decoratively to match the door) against the frame, so viewed from above it looked like this |--|. We then attached two...

    Controlbooth vs SoundTrekkie

If old posts weren't important why would the posters here keep telling people to use the search function. There's no point in disregarding a thread just because it's old. Or does theater change that quickly? Seriously.

Band Teacher nearly ruined the gels in Color Scrollers

How is that annoying? He was just adding on a useful tip to a post that some people may look to for information. Just because it hasn't been touched for a while doesn't mean it's no longer valid or interesting information.

    Hello Guys 2

Look at that I started a mini-trend. Sophomore meaning high school or college?sounds like a good thing you've got going. I'd love to have that kind of freedom at my school, but for now I'll stick with being "the reliable one".

    Hey guys.

I agree completely. I'm really going to miss our two sponsors/coaches/directors. One, the lighting and sound sponsor, has been in that position for 11 years, and went to high school here before that. The scenery sponsor has only been here for 4 years, but he got the job shortly after college...
