Design Help with aiming lights from a fly up/down truss(no catwalk)

Bounce focusing is the simplest and cheapest approach, but it might be worth looking into whether your school district or even your school has a Genie Lift that can be arranged for. I have designed shows in a school that has a very strange auditorium, with front lights mounted on a truss 32 feet...

    Analog Systems to give away

I have some old equipment I would like to get rid of, and I am interested in finding someone who could possibly still be using this stuff. I am not interested in selling it. I would only ask that you pay for the cost of shipping it to you.The first is an old Leprecon six channel system. There...

Par 64 reflector with dys lamp?

Sorry to resurrect this discussion, but I have a question about these units. I am reconfiguring a terribly inaccessible lighting grid in a school auditorium, and there are a bunch of these instruments (manufactured by Chauvet) up there, all of which have blown lamps in them. With the rated life...

Conventional Fixtures Source Four Jr. Opinions?

The Source Four is a more efficient, modern instrument than the 360Q. More light goes out the front, and way less heat is generated. I agree that the 25 degree beam angle of the Jr. Zoom is not sufficient for your needs though. The 19 degree full size Source Four would serve your needs better...

Conventional Fixtures Sidelight recommendations (buy or rent)

I agree with Gafftaper. I would recommend the S4 Jr. Zoom. If you need to cover a wide stage, a PAR or a Fresnel won't give you as much control or punch at distance as an ERS, and these instruments are very compact and relatively lightweight. Don't worry so much about templates. I can't imagine...

    ETC Source Four PARnels

I have found that putting a 750W lamp in a Source Four Par produces too much heat for most gels. If you are using something with less than 50% transmission, be prepared to change out the gel pretty regularly. With less than 15% transmission, be prepared to see pieces of fried gel falling to the...

    Gels Burning Out, S4 Juniors...etc.

I had a good chuckle when I read the last post. I haven't thought about doing that for many years! Back when gels were made out of less effective materials than they are now, they couldn't handle heat very well at all. When you used a saturated color, you had no choice but do that "tracing...

    Source 4 or Shakespeare

I agree with Ship about the reflector assemblies in S4s. I have only once had to remove an intact reflector from one though. Several hours of work! The rest of my experiencde with reflectors were replacements of broken ones after instruments have been dropped. Not a difficult task at all. I...
