Finally got a good pic of the more or less finished product. Thanks again for everyone's tips! We are heading to Orlando next week, so surviving the very long road trip and YES packing all the extras for "just in case" is PHEW, the final big test.
I just wanted to update on this post to say everyone's comments were VERY helpful, and the set is coming along nicely.I'll post pictures when she's all done and pretty, but with your advice and some very detailed 3D modeling we do have a set that is safe and functional! Huzzah!
