    Software Light Control

I use ShowXpress for plays here at local middle schools and it works great. you can use the 3d mode to map out your stage and place your fixtures in the space. it gives you a real feel for what it will look like in real life. it does become a glorified dimmer pack but you also have all the...

    Letter drop

Do you have any space Stage Left and Right so you can just have two tech crew on ladders with a box of letters each and throw them by hand out above the actor so they can fall without rigging some ridiculous automated thingamabob.

How to brace a free-standing door on a rake?

Does the Door have a Threshold? its a framed door from home depot or another home supply store I assume. I would suggest building a threshold out of a 2x4 and some plywood so you can screw the bottom of the frame of the door to the 2x4 threshold and screw the threshold to the plywood with...

Automated Fixtures Chauvet Wedding-Ready Gobo Pack

So I purchased Four of the Intimidator Spot 355z's and it says it comes with a free Wedding Ready Gobo Pack but I can't find them anywhere in the packaging. Has anyone bought these and know where they hide those gobo's? because of the holiday no one is answering at Chauvet so I'm asking here...

Playing lyrics in monitors and not the house?

I assume this means that none of the performers can remember the lyrics to the songs. Why not put a computer monitor or an Ipad on stage displaying the lyrics?

Medium-Low Tack Tape for Wood Rehearsal Floors

make sure you clean the floor before you put tape down. Just wipe with a damp cloth and dry. Blue Tape will not stick down if it's on top of dust or dirt. I use Blue painters tape and don't have too much trouble.

    House floor paint

why not just mask off the area that is worn and paint a "stripe" basically on the worn area only. you can choose a color that matches the seat upholstery or any color really. then there is no cutting in or masking off seats. just a day of making your "stripes" straight as possible.

    Microphone cable clips?

I just use black Velcro Cable wraps and strap the cable to the stand. Unless I know the singer is going to want to move.

    Smoke machines and fire alarms

I was running effects and lights for a production of Phantom of the Opera. there is a scene in the play where the fire alarm goes off in the theater. I got a little crazy with the low lying fog machine and set the real alarms off, one line from when the alarm in the play goes off. everyone in...

    3D Visualization Software

I use Show Express it's free to download and has a decent 3D view. The stage objects are really generic as far as placing a person or instrument on stage. but, it works great to give yourself a visual idea before you start setting up lights in the real world.

    Stabbing an Eye

I would not recommend using a real pen anywhere near a real eye!!!!!!!!!!!! one small misstep or missed mark and real nurses will be needed. here is how I would do it.go to home depot and buy some High Density Foam. Shape it into a Pen shape use spray paint or whatever to make it resemble a...

    Shure boundary microphone

Seems like a good idea but, when the set changes and you have to uninstall and re-install repeatedly that may cause problems. If your not building it into the set then you will need to build some sort of housing for it so, it can stand up or point horizontally....etc. seems like a lot of work...

How much should I charge for a middle school instrumental music concert?

If i were doing this event, the price for the equipment listed would be around $500-$600 Plus $35 an hour for FOH Tech. If they are asking you if you want more money, then say YES! I wish some of the Schools I do events for would ask me that question! Your kids are not in the school anymore so...

    RF over Fiber

I just looked up the Shure ULX Frequency Compatibility Chart.VERBATIM: To maximize the number of compatible wireless systems in a given area, eliminate the frequencies that are occupied by local TV Channels, and then use the group with the most remaining available (open) frequencies. So it...
