    Suspension Trauma at amusement park

http://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/2-people-rescued-after-hanging-tulsa-fair-sky-ride-n426366 The second person was recovered, rather than rescued. Make sure you train for suspension trauma. Jen

LED pars as foot lighting for front lighting a stage ?

You're welcome! And, to be clear, that is a "Ground Plan" view - straight down from above the stage. You should still put your stands and lights at whatever height you usually use (7' tall or so?). Here's another crappy illustration from the front:

LED pars as foot lighting for front lighting a stage ?

You would place the stands on the stage (you said there was no room in the audience), at the far DL and DR corners. Here's a crappy Paint illustration:The shadows fall mostly against the legs, instead of looming above and behind the performers, which is what would happen with footlights...

LED pars as foot lighting for front lighting a stage ?

You might have better luck setting up your stands on stage to do "high sides" - as far DS as possible, one SL and one SR. The shadows will at least be mostly in the wings. HTH, Jen

Paper being magically sucked up a fireplace

Is there time between the non-rigged paper going in and the rigged paper flying out the chimney to do a switcheroo? A rotisserie-type flip of the fire could get rid of the thrown-in paper and reveal the rigged paper, so that you don't have "extra" pieces in there when the gag happens. HTH, Jen

Microphones Recommendation for mic to feed backstage monitors

I would suggest a cheaper mic and a good compressor. In my room, I have an old SM58-equivalent hung above the apron, pointing straight down, that does a pretty good job of getting stage (direct) sound above than the PA (good for hearing scene changes, but maybe not great for your lobby feed?)...

    Design Lighting Board issue

I have the same set-up, and for busking days I have a sub that sets intensity to full and all color parameters to 0. The R, G, B, and A subs only have color info. That lets me mix colors on the fly. I had some issues on one particularly busy day with the profile default color parameters...

    Calling cues

I prefer the acknowledgement to be "lights" or "sound", if there are multiple people on com. That way the SM knows that the right person is ready to take the cue. As SteveB said, just ask. Some shows are too dense to fill up the line with replies. Other times cues are minutes apart, so the SM...

Noisy lights - need a better explanation!

Try backing off the knobs and screws on the offending fixtures by an eighth turn or so. It'll make it easier for the metal to move without vibration (sound). That was our solution with the super-clicky 1KLs, and it worked like a charm. HTH, Jen

    Crown Moulding Gaps

Depending on how far away the scenery is, you may also get away with drywall mesh tape (which is somewhat stiff and also adhesive) and paint. It doesn't look so great from a few inches away, but will disappear from a distance, and it doesn't bubble up or peel off when painted as masking tape...

Setting spike marks without using tape

Maybe there's a vocabulary gap? Gaff tape adhesive is different from electrical tape adhesive. E-tape often gets used for spiking, and I can imagine it leaving residue on the lines (and sliding around - think about when the taped-up end of a line loses its tape: yuck). Gaff should be fine, in my...

HS Sound Tech looking for advice!

In general, patching is like connecting a plumbing (or electrical) system - sound goes in, gets routed around (and modified), then comes back out. Mic -> mixer/processing -> amp -> speaker. As far as patching into your console, you may need to try a few different ways to get the handles that...

Setting spike marks without using tape

Is there no wiggle room on using tape? All of the houses around here with counterweight systems use colored gaff tape as spike marks, and I don't know of any issues with locks or with the multiline. Do you have the fancy auto-locks? Maybe those are different? Or do you have a situation where...

    Cyclorama help

Since it's just cardboard, you could most likely get away with rectangular jacks, also of cardboard, that both act as stiffeners and could be taped to the floor at the bottom to hold the skyline upright. As a broad guess, I'd add a flap of one inch depth per foot of height. Since you are...
