    USITT Show Report

It seems a lot of faculty position compensation is based on the assumption that the faculty also works outside the university at least summers, if not freelance things during the regular school year. Even though if you asked administration, they wouldn't admit that, or even necessarily know...

Martin Lighting MAC 2000 Profile II

Agreeing with this one. From experience, even a partially loaded capacitor of that size will HURT at best, and the worst is much worse. Be very careful with those.

Martin Sues ETC for Patent Infringement

This strikes me as a "defend your patent or lose it" lawsuit.

Martin Sues ETC for Patent Infringement

Ahh, for the yoke handles. I hadn't realized that the patent hadn't expired for those.

Those PDFS seem to be behind a paywall, any chance you can sum it up for us?

    I-Cue, PATCHING PAN AND TILT

Send us more pictures! Pictures of the IQ where the DMX address is, the power supply, how it is plugged in can go a very long way towards us helping you. We've all been the new person on the scene at one time or another, and we've all been frustrated to the point of crying at one point in our...

Conventional Fixtures Altman 1000 followspot operation/questions

even if you leave the other colors empty, it is often nice to have a light hampshire frost/diffusion to soften the edges, and a CTO to tone down the color temp. Those are frequently asked for, and a nice standby.

Another attack in a theatre - Keeps happening again. Can we do anything?

I've certainly escorted the guys with flak jackets and long black bags up into the catwalks before for shows. I'm not part of any house crew, so that was only for special occasions, usually secret service related. But it definitely happens at least irregularly, if not regularly.

    LYCIAN 927 Ballast Wiring

Give Steve or Steve a call. I'm sure they'd be happy to send you a wiring diagram. I don't have one laying around in my files.

Is buying used moving light fixtures worth it?

Yes?I have 22 bodies in my building right now. My repair department decided it was only cost effective to repair 6, even with all the other fixtures as donor/parts repairs. Fans will be an issue if you ever get them at the wrong voltage. Wiring harnesses will need repair. Ship has given...

Is buying used moving light fixtures worth it?

I would way that if you're not comfortable/not interested in component level repair and soldering, the Mac 250 is a terrible choice. It is a great fixture, solid as a tank, but is ancient in the world of moving head lighting. Parts are scarce and expensive. The only economical way to run a...

Coming to the conclusion the tech has moved beyond my ability to keep up...

That sounds like a tough spot to be in. It sounds like your faced with the double edged problem of not enough training (that you've clearly identified), and not being involved enough in the process. Or maybe just not being heard. It sounds like the rest of your design team (sets, costumes...

Is buying used moving light fixtures worth it?

And if you get it from them, you likely have the phone number of the repair person, and can just pick their brain about common problems. Usually they're happy to help, and happy that those repairs aren't their problem anymore. Good chance they've got a pile of carcasses out back that they'd be...
