How to run a center PA channel?

I can feel your pain ;). I too work with a poorly installed P.A. system 3 times a week. I am having one of the same problems you are. Here is what I have done to cope with the problem, I don't know if it will work for you but you can certainly try it. > Turn up the Left and Right channels...

    Replacing a Board

With this trade you are actually losing some channels. can you afford to do this? How many and what kind of mics do you use? Are there any alternatives to what kind of board you can purchase, can you direct them towards another model? I would get a Mackie CFX20 mkII. You gain 4 more mic...

    Note from the SM

You were correct. Reducing the bass of the mic will make it sound thin, not solve the problem. You want the fullness of the low end. Are you using the SUBMIXES (groups) on the mixing console? Try routing all the mics into a group and Inserting a comp/limiter into the INSERT jack for the group. A...

    Wireless with effects pedals

If I had to guess I would say they used the Insert jack for the channel the guitar is plugged into to feed the pedalboard. That gives the guitarist the freedom from cables while getting the control of a pedalboard.

    Monitor Placement

Is there any way you can reduce the acoustics of the room? Acoustic foam? You can also try setting rugs and curtains or something between the monitors and around the walls to absorb some of the stray sound waves from the monitors before they travel to the house.

    "Muteing" a piano

Amen, PCPVulture! Put a nice dampening material and put it on the underside of the piano first, and if still too loud put some on the underside of the lid as well. Try to keep it the same color of the piano if possible to keep it from looking unsightly and freaking out any of the staff. :)...

    Sound Check

You can use anything without heavy bass and nice hi-mid range (1-6 KHz) frequencies. E.g. an acoustic guitar. This is the vocal range which should be most the most precisely tuned spectrum in your system. P.S. don't forget to walk around the house area and listen to how it sounds from...

Loudspeakers Can I get away without a crossover?

Wh you install a subwoofer it is always a good idea to remove the higher frequencies from the signal unless it has a built in crossover. A graphic equalizer with a certain frequency all the way down does not eliminate the frequency, rather reduce it by 15dB (+/- a few depending on the EQ). You...

    CD recording??? help!

Hi, at my church we use a Fostex Cr500 to record the service to a CD. I really like having the ability to record to CD, but I have a complaint about it: It takes a lot of time getting ready to start a new track. For example, we change tracks after every hymn. After a hymn is over, the...
