    Organic Scenery

I'm working with my wife and her high school theatre department to build Peter Pan.I consider myself a decent carpenter, when it comes to walls, doors, windows, platforms etc, but I really struggle when it comes to building a more organic set...you know....with lines that are not straight...

Hey, I thought we could share pictures of our shows...

Re: Hey i thought we could share pic of our showsBummer. I didn't do anything really special. There are photo galleries in the lighting design section and a Windows media plug in for the sound design section, but to not load or function at all, that's really weird. I did build it with an...

Attaching smart casters to a platform

Thank you for helping me with that. My wife just started a job as a technical theatre teacher at a high school. And while she's perfectly capable to teach this class, and an excellent designer, there were a few of the technical direction aspects that have escaped her since college (they've...

Attaching smart casters to a platform

As an extension of this (no pun intended) how do you all usually attach casters to legged platforms? We're not talking tall platforms, only 3' or so. Thanks again for everyone's help. -Chris

Attaching smart casters to a platform

Are drywall screws are beefy enough to deal with bumps and such that I have not doubt these wagons will incur? Thanks again -Chris

Attaching smart casters to a platform

Sorry about the simple questions recently, it's just been forever since I've done most of this, and now my wife is teaching high school tech theatre and guess who gets to help problem solve? When attaching smart casters to a platform to create a wagon (both legged and legless) what is the...

    Flying a Hard Flat

When flying a hard flat, what is the best way to secure the aircraft cable to the flat? Eye bolt to the top rail? Run the aircraft cable through the top rail and stile and secure to the bottom rail? Chewing gum? TIA! -Chris

    Traffic Lights

Great thread! Down here some traffic lights have a sort of honeycomb on them so you can only see them when viewed straight on. So the turn lane light can turn green while the others remain red and only the turn lane people can see it. Maybe Modern Marvels will do a History of the Traffic...

    ION is almost here!

Wow, what a discussion, I regret that I'm coming in to it a bit late. It's my understanding (from a dealer's perspective) that the EOS line (EOS and ION) was meant to be a completely seperate line of consoles from the Congo Line. With the EOS line being directed more towards the theatre...

    How to make a Silhouette

Is there enough space to floor mount a fixture or two? Perhaps a floor cyc or a 90 degree? With a little haze in the air this would give a pretty cool effect, picture beams of light shooting into the air from around the houses. Just a thought. -Chris

    Lighting in the Academic/Educational World

I see your point and agree that it is a good idea to get kid's hands on good gear. There's not much point in teaching them how to use a piano board and spaghetti patch anymore. That being said, I think it is more important to teach the fundamentals first so they understand the concepts...

    Lighting in the Academic/Educational World

What a great thread...and good discussion...I wish I had time to read more in depth. I'd have to say, for me it breaks out like this: High School: Focus on the basics...there's really no reason for a high school student to be worrying about programming 30 movers and utilizing an inventory...

    Changing degrees of Colortrans

IIRC, the inside of the barrel has a little table engraved detailing what lenses go in which position and where exactly you need a field stop (donut) for each degree. Good luck! -Chris
