    Haven't tried that yet...I will finally have some time on Wednesday to do some serious troubleshooting, and will try this out.The biggest hurdle is that the crackling can be so intermittent, that I can't tell if what I'm doing is making any effect at all.

    Thanks for replying! Yes, it's a Clearcom SB-704...though I don't see a ribbon cable on it.I agree with your theory that it's something sending. Maybe it's worth it to power it all down and then exercise all of the knobs and connections, using contact cleaner where necessary...?
