    Outboard Gear The Too-Many-Headsets Problem

It's an RS-202S [and yes the S makes a difference] and When I said it was very rare I absolutely wasn't kidding. I came upon my first one as NOS in the store room of the sound company I worked at in the 90s [and it was already very much outdated then]. I used it for several hundred shows before...

Is anyone interfacing Unity Intercom to Clear-Com 2W?

obviously if it's balanced it provides no mechanical advantage as the polarities are the same length. Only Unbalanced oudio does that as the two polarity are different sizes and so you can actual get a raise in the power of your output signal. I thought this was common knowledge.

SM58 as a Clear Com mic

I've wired an adapter to the specs shared above and it "just worked". Basically the impedance and such is close enough to a dynamic headset mic that it works fine.

Is anyone interfacing Unity Intercom to Clear-Com 2W?

4 wire intercom is just basic "Line Level balanced" audio, so you can usually treat it as such. When I've used analog computer interfaces to interface with 4W comms ports I've just made sure that the inputs and outputs are set to line lever "unity gain" so I'm not introducing a gain stage...

    Outboard Gear The Too-Many-Headsets Problem

The headphone interface for RTS and Clearcom is the same just with gender reversed connectors. And there are Clearcom devices with A5Fs and RTS with A4Ms but yes, it's all one for one with regard to pinouts so you can have gender turnarounds to get between RTS/Clearcom without issue.

    Outboard Gear The Too-Many-Headsets Problem

Oh I've dug this hole. many times. and had it collapse on me and then I dug another hole and then didn't find any treasure and then... you get the idea.My best solution, that I never actually built, was a passive summing mixer with 4-6 inputs and 2 outputs. Each input has 3 position select...

Is anyone interfacing Unity Intercom to Clear-Com 2W?

If you've got a FS-II base station you've got a great bridge to connect a lot of different things to different things. I've used it in that capacity many times. Then getting from Unity into the 4W is just a matter of an analog computer interface and some 4W adapters. Easy Peasy.

    Outboard Gear The Too-Many-Headsets Problem

Audiocom is a weird one. It operates either in "balanced mode" which is a unique Audiocom format [neither RTS nor Clearcom] or it operates in "Unbalanced Mode" which is completely Clearcom compatible. It's good quality gear that can usually be found for next to nothing and it often can fill...

    Outboard Gear The Too-Many-Headsets Problem

Hi Jay -So what you're talking about is how to get your comms and your cue buss from your desk into the same headset. I've spent about 25 years trying to solve what you're solving in a "one box fits all" solution and I've yet to get there. I've built at least a dozen different solutions in my...
