A Good Play for Set Design Class

My scenic design class did Goose and Tomtom by David Rabe. Not a great play, but some really fun design options.

Tech in Texas (...no, not in Lubbock)

Oof, I know it's awfully late, but there are a few good schools. I know some good people who have come out of UNT, UTAustin is good too. I am currently at SMU, which is expensive, but good for some people. PM me if you have any questions. I have a lot of...opinions on SMU.

    A Few Schools

You listed all excellent schools. I'm a freshman in college now and most of those schools were on the top of my list. I also had SUNY Purchase on my list which is cheaper and has a very strong program. Emerson in Boston was also on my list. In fact I had sent in my acceptance papers to...

College Search for technical theatre (please help)

As a Denverite, I know a lot about both DU and U of Northern CO. I know a few talented people who go to DU, I know their lighting professor and she is lovely. But it seems to me that if you want to pay their extravagant tuition, there are places with better facilities and programs. DU is not...

    School theater budget cuts HELP!!

We had a similar problem. We found that the district and administrators were much more willing to help us out when our equipment was in bad shape when we pointed out how much money they make through the theatre, they use it for assemblies, school fundraisers and the like. When they realized...

    FOOT BRIDGE

Ooh! This is not as hard as it looks. What we did was simple. For one thing, if you happen to have a bunch of stairs sitting around ( we did for some reason) use these as a starting point. If you don't... At home depot and other stores I'm sure, they have some precut stair starters...

    Your worst theatre injury

You lucky turd. My friend dropped a table on my foot. Just a stupid, fold up table. All the doctors swore it was just bruised and sent me home. Yeah, I decided it definitely wasn't just bruised somewhere around the 15th hour of a 17 hour new year's show load-out. But I continued loading out...

    Other useful skills

Hello. So I've just graduated high school and I'm going to be the one and only freshman tech major at Southern Methodist University in the fall (eep!). Essentially, I'm trying to figure out which minors and classes to take outside of theatre. I have a lot of free time due to ap classes, so I...

    Stagecraft Institute

Don Childs struck me as pretty brilliant when I took a lighting design class with him. I don't know how much teaching he does there, but it you can find a way into one of his classes, do it.

    Blacklight Efffects

Second on the wildfires. I've used these lights before and they have a lovely effect. They do have a shortish throw distance, 20 or 30 feet, but I would expect that that would be true with any kind of blacklight or simulation of such.

    Breaking out

Last summer I was in the same situation. I basically called, emailed and sent a resume and cover letter to every theatre within 25 miles. I ended up taking a free internship and once they saw I could work, they offered me a paying position running a two month show and from doing load-ins and...

    Rigging a bird to drop

I'm a fan of soundman's chip clip drop. That's so simple and I see no reason why it wouldn't work. Way to get back to basics. I think I'll try that on beauty and the beast.

    Sound ghosties

The battery was strong. The tape deck just appeared today, apparently we got it used off of someone and personally, I think it's a cheap pos, but I had to use it since I had to play a tape and record at the same time. It had rca in and out, that's it. I also don't know what would have...

    Sound ghosties

So I work in a church and randomly today, during the sermon, I wasn't even touching the sound board (truthfully I was reading Stephen King under the counter) and all of a sudden the volume jumps and feeds back. I've been working there two years and this has never happened before. The only...

    Charc's College Thread

Alright, I return from Southern Methodist University a convert. I was so impressed with their program. In fact, I'll definitely be going there this fall. The campus is beautiful, and unlike a lot of the other more conservatory style programs I looked at, it offers an honors program and...
