    Automate a lid?

Look at frightprops.com. If fixed speed is ok, I'd use a pneumatic cylinder with a small CO2 tank (paintball tank?) hidden in the trunk. Otherwise I'd look at a car window motor or a linear actuator (depending on weight and travel needed). RC4 products are excellent but you may not need that...

    Periaktoi Detent?

With no live movement, why bother with any linkage? In the past I've used ball catches on a Delrin disc but three strong magnets on the bottom (or top) of each periaktos and another on the static structure should do the job without needing any other fabrication.

    Scaffolding Best Practices?

No one has mentioned the lack of a gooser bar (also called grouser bar) which connects the diagonally opposite verticals and maintains the squareness of the frame. Generally a full set of LOCKED IN planks will prevent the problem but during assembly the frame can rack and possibly collapse. I've...

    Color Kinetics and DMX512 control

This info about discontinued CK products might help. https://www.colorkinetics.com/global/products/rgb/colorblast12

    Color Kinetics and DMX512 control

My understanding is that you can only configure the PDS for KiNet (CK's Ethernet protocol) control through the Ethernet port. (not assign DMX addresses). I believe that the PDS150e will only power three Color Blasts (50 watts each). (one on each of the three output groups). If someone has tried...

    Color Kinetics and DMX512 control

As noted above, CK uses a different pinout on the RJ45 connectors. Pins 1&2 are still data but polarity is oposite of ESTA standard. Also, they use pin 3 as common. Before everyone complains about that, remember CK started using DMX over RJ45 long before the ESTA standard. To set addresses on...

TELEPHONE QUESTION - Ringing a Western Electric 302 with power amp - clarification

25 years ago I had to build a display that showed how a phone system works. I used a Viking DLE-200B Two Way Phone Line Simulator. I Actually found the spare that I bought (still in original box) and will be glad to send it to you for the cost of shipping. Probably won't help your current...

    Control/Dimming DMX Recorders

I've been using the Interactive Technologies Cue Server for years (the original version) and carry a CS Mini in my backpack for monitoring / generating DMX test patterns. You can write static cues directly or record snapshots or streaming cues from a console. I've even used it to start a...

    DMX over cat5e

I've used CAT5 for DMX extensively but it can be a problem since the cable is usually solid copper. I've seen what appear to be good solder joints and screw terminal connections turn out to be intermittent nightmares. Best to use a properly installed RJ45 connector and an RJ45 to 5 pin XLR...

Old projectors: what to do with them

I thought you said "old". Anybody have a use for Kodak Carousel slide projectors?
