Automatic/Resistive rope locks. What are your thoughts?

I agree, I do not think that counterweight should be specified for new-build theatres. It is lifting machinery and whilst it is hand-operated, it is operated in a manner where the operator can easily lose control and the system continue with the lift. There is no emergency stop button. This...

    Motor assisted fly.

The only benefit I can see of attaching to the motors to the batten, is that you can use lower capacity motors to pick up a heavier load, by assisting the motors using the counterweight.Like, when it comes to variable speed chain hoists, the ones with lower SWLs tend to be the faster ones. So...

    Lighting Desk Advice

I have sent you a message Gemma as I hope I might be able to help more. I can get to Ormskirk quite easily. With regards to the Avolites Pearl 2000... my number 1 word of advice would be do not touch it. It was a very competitive piece of kit in it's day, it and especially it's follower the...

    Motor assisted fly.

@RonHebbard yes sorry I missed that out from my explanation. I fill the arbor to the top and leave the motor attached all the time. May as well. Better than the risk of getting the set half way lifted then finding out it's heavier than the production carp though it was and now you've got no way...

Automatic/Resistive rope locks. What are your thoughts?

I can see the benefit of this in an education scenario, however, I think the flip-side of that argument would be that teachers may become reliant on the fact that the automatic rope lock is there, and pay less attention to the balancing of the bar and the arbor. First priority needs to be that...

    Motor assisted fly.

It's very unusual to see a bar-heavy motor assist. In the UK I have built quite a few motor-assist counterweight sets, using an electric chain hoist to control the descent of an arbor-heavy set.The idea being that you take the arbor up to the gallery, then rig a motor above it and attach the...

    Control/Dimming Measuring Conductor Size

I appreciate your input :) but like, the whole reason we're in this situation is because it looks like 6mm to me, looks like 6mm to one of our electricians, but not to the other. "Looks too small to me" isn't cutting it, hence I was after some measurements. I appreciate there's going to be a bit...

    Control/Dimming Measuring Conductor Size

Yes and these are the sort of sparkies who would use it!Hence I really want to know if I can use any simple measuring system to put a pair of verniers to the conductor (obviously isolated) and determine the actual conductor size.

    Control/Dimming Measuring Conductor Size

Sorry should have explained things I already tried:Sadly it's not. Or at least, not on the small section of cable poking out of the wall.Yes I can get inside and measure on the actual conductors themselves.Sadly not.

Warming up Source Fours and Fresnels

If you've stored your conventionals away over winter and are getting them back out for the first time in a while, sitting them at full for 15 minutes might not do them any harm just for burning the dust off, save doing it in the show and panicking any audience sat around the balcony rail or near...

    Control/Dimming Measuring Conductor Size

Not sure if this is the best forum but there doesn't appear to be a general electrical thread...Is there a way to easily measure - using maybe verniers - the size of a conductor inside multicore cable? Obviously the size is given in mm2 so I need more than the diameter - although would simple...

    Spring-Driven Socapex Cable Reels

If it helps you, in my last venue we had about 40 spring-driven socapex 'reelers' and about 10 spring-driven Ethernet 'reelers'. Soca reelers carried 2 socas, ethernet reelers carried just the 1 cat5.Personally I think that they suck big balls and you're far better hanging looms of socas over...
