My first recommendation to you would be to get multiple quotes. You can always try and negotiate, but it depends on the supplier as well as the products that you have specified.
I would say the less fixtures argument isn't about reducing the number of systems you have in your plot, just the number of fixtures in each system. For example, i no longer need 2 or 3 fixtures next to each other ultimately doing the same thing just will a different color gel.

I strongly disagree. the 24/7 support is not for emergencies only. Also, don't forget that ETC in an international company with employees in many time zones. If is very possible that you will be routed to someone during their standard business hours, even if they aren't 9 to 5 in Wisconsin.
(800)688-4116 is the phone number for ETC technical support. They are available 24/7. Call them the next time you are in front of the equipment. Also see if you can find a project number sticker somewhere on the equipment, or have the street address of the building handy. School names can...
I do want to note that the ColorSource AV consoles do have a browser based remote. If you connect the console to a wireless network you can use a browser to remotely control the console. It is the "Amigo® Remote Web Browser"
