Difference of sound between Auditorium Speakers and Guitar Amp?

So recently I heard a musician say that guitar amps sound different (and normally better) than an installed system. I know that they will be EQ'd differently, but he wasn't talking about that, just that the amp would have a cleaner sound. It sounded like BS to me, but is there any truth to this?

Audio degree not limited to theater?

I honestly have no idea. I guess that's why I want a degree that will give me a bit of recording, a bit of live, and a bit of repair.

Audio degree not limited to theater?

Hey there! I've been looking at colleges and was wanting a few suggestions. I want a degree in sound that is not only theater or not only recording, but a mixture of both. I was looking at Belmont University's BS in Audio Engineering degree and really liked it, but Belmont is gonna end up being...

    Rosco 1600 Smoke Machine Issues

I used to use this same type of machine and had this exact same issue. For me it was letting it run dry for about 30 seconds to get the old fluid out before switching to a new fluid (which it says in the manual, however talking to Rosco tech support they told me to never do that). Basically your...

    Ducking on LS9

How do I set up ducking on the Yamaha LS9? I've looked through the manual but I still can't figure it out. For some reason it will only duck channel 23 when 23's input exceeds the amount instead of using 22's input like it's set to do (Key In Source is set to Ch22 Post EQ). So what am I doing wrong?

So I followed those videos and it worked perfectly! Not really sure what we had wrong the first time, but it works now. Thanks for the help everyone!

    LS9-Editor

He didn't touch our boards. It was his laptop and all his stuff so he was trying to set up all the software.

    LS9-Editor

Those videos seem pretty useful. When I get a chance I'll have to look through them. We borrowed a laptop and the cables from the school and after two hours of fiddling with the settings the school IT guy gave up and is gonna try again tomorrow. I'll send him a link to the videos. Thanks!

    LS9-Editor

I just tried hooking up my LS9 to a laptop but am having some issues. So I've installed the LS9 Editor software, the studio manager, and the drivers and configured them according to the guides. It is plugged in directly to the board through an ethernet cable. I tried pinging the board, but it...

    Shure ULX Issues

When you say nothing comes up on the screen, do you mean the transmitter screen or the receiver screen?

pop over main caused by a fan?

It's plugged in just a normal power outlet. I don't think they are on the same breaker, but I'll try to figure it out. It's plugged into the same outlet as our electronic bell system (those speakers are automatically turned off when not in use) so it might mess those up a little if we turn off...

pop over main caused by a fan?

Once I realized it was the fan making the pop, I stopped. The amps are in the prop lofts back stage so would it make that much of interference to cause that?

pop over main caused by a fan?

I'm in the middle of an assembly in our theater. Since I'm bored in the booth, I started turning the small desk fan that we have next to the sound board on and off. I started to notice whenever I turn it on or off, there is a small pop over the main speakers. I listened to the individual mic and...

    Mic suppression effect

Sorry for the late response, but yeah, that's with other actors on stage and stuff. So just quickly suppress their lows/highs and send it through reverb? I guess I'll have to play around with it a bit and test it out. Thanks!
