Advice for Lighting with ungrounded circuits

GFCI's are just for safety. I'd be fine with a standard 3-prong outlet. As for the wiring, I'd have to ask, but I'm 85% sure it's greenfield conduit. I work tomorrow, I'll ask what can be done (and if we can trace the circuits so I don't put 8 lekos on one 20A breaker!)

    Unknown Adaptor

Yes, probably a tape deck connector. Interesting stuff, I have a Pioneer SX series receiver and it has a DIN connector on the back for a tape deck. 2 pins for L/R Playback, 2 pins for L/R Record, and a fifth pin for grounding the rest.

Advice for Lighting with ungrounded circuits

Hello all,In about a week, I will be pricing and renting lighting equipment for an event I have been sub-contracted to run tech for at a local fine-arts college. I work for the college as a utilities/maintenance person. The venue is an old library with no rigging, so I will need T-stands (or...

    Optosplitter Project

Thank you! However, the Schottkey diode on the input ensures the supply does not short, or supply reverse-voltage to the 7805.

    Optosplitter Project

I used a schottkey diode on the input jack to protect against reverse voltage. Also, many of the schematics are older than the final product: The enable pins are pulled high with a 4.7KΩ resistor in my current design. This wasn't included in the schematic I capped for the website. This design...

9VDC because I wanted to keep it compact. I thought of drilling into the PLA and add an eyelet or a hole for a pipe clamp.

    Optosplitter Project

Thank you! And it is 1/4" TS, I was going to use DC barrel, but I wanted something that wouldn't come unplugged easily. To boot, it's now labeled as power so no pesky musicians try to plug their guitars into it ;)

    Optosplitter Project

If you'll see my reply to David North, the current design does not isolate between each output. It is on the list of things I'd like to improve in my revision of this circuit. And, for personal use, I'm okay with it having only one isolation point (at the least, it's a good proof of concept)...

    Optosplitter Project

I have considered some design issues, I knew the individual isolation was popular. What confused me at first was the opto's seemingly single-ended output, which the DBT chips work with to produce a differential output (or so it would seem...). I am currently refining the design in my own time...

    Optosplitter Project

Hello all,No questions from me today, I would like to take this time to share a project I've just completed for a course in my collegiate Electrical Engineering program. I built my own DMX512 optosplitter, with a custom 3-D printed enclosure. Link to my website: ELT2720: Electrical Project's...

Control/Dimming CMX to DMX512 - any other way?

I know it's been a while....but...Thank you very much, Chris was very helpful in providing information. I now have (what I believe to be) everything necessary to give the Patchman DMX output. Over a few emails, he said:You will need to change the crystal to 16 MHZ and cut the trace from...

Control/Dimming CMX to DMX512 - any other way?

Once it arrives in the mail, I will have the manual.

Control/Dimming CMX to DMX512 - any other way?

Funny enough, I own a Status. The patchman would not be for me, I'd be the one running it and making everything work. I'll try to look for an ETC converter, or think of someway to convert the baud rate/start-stop bits.

Control/Dimming CMX to DMX512 - any other way?

Hmm. Is it at all possible that the console is factory-made to output DMX? I heard somewhere that the later models were built that way.

Control/Dimming CMX to DMX512 - any other way?

Hi all,I am working with a Colortran Patchman console, which only outputs CMX. I would like to get it to speak DMX so I can use it with the dimmers we have. I know there are threads already posted about talking to Steve at Lite-trol, but my question was not answered. There have been mentions...
