    Making a City Skyline advice

a couple of thoughts. Firstly, I'm not sure how much of that video is built. It looks possible that only the front layer is built and the rest is projected. Secondly, if I was building it I'd probably go for 12mm MDF with minimal framing, and I'd cut it with a jigsaw, possibly using a table saw...

A politically correct can of worms

I don't think the "well, it won't get made without Scarlett Johansson, so then everyone will miss out" argument really holds water. This could be applied to any kind of discriminatory or offensive depiction. At some point we have to say we're going to try to get it right. And what we can say is...

    Forerunner Cable VS 4 Pin

I just happen to have an Apollo scroller manual here (I've got some scrollers, but no PSU). It states that Apollo PSUs are compatible with Forerunners (and Spectra-Q, Chroma-Q and Rainbow) but not Coloram which seemingly has power reversed. Apollo pinout is 1: 0V DC; 2: DMX-; 3: DMX+; 4: +24V...

    MAC700s Not Snapping Out

No, they have a studio mode. I thought this was just a fan setting, but a re-read of the manual shows it's a quiet mode which controls move speeds. So the OP is likely correct, studio mode was interfering with his intensity fade.

    MAC700s Not Snapping Out

Hmm. I have 700's, and they're usually in studio mode. Can anyone shed any light on this before I haul one out and play with it? I thought studio mode was just a fan mode ing?

    Popular/Common Gel colors

I seem to be on my own here, but the CTB family are my go-to's - L200, 201, 202. Great as the cool against OW, and how cool you want determines which cool you use. I like 052 and 053, and of course 180 for a rich saturat d lavender. I've been playing with 500/501/502 but I struggle to see much...

    Which new lighting rig?

Hi Paul - lovely to see an administrator wanting to buy tech gear! I'm sure you're aware that $10K is not very much money for lighting gear. You can easily blow that and more on the desk alone, before you connect it to anything. I'd suggest the following:- at that budget, you will be using...

Just drafted as "LD" - need help with rep plot approach

Hi Stu - hit me up if/when you get to NZ, I'm always keen to meet other theatre people! I'm a freelance LD and lighting tech, and the LD for the Pop-Up Globe (popupglobe.co.nz) here in Auckland.I see what you mean about your stage, that is very deep. One option would be to make it less deep by...

Just drafted as "LD" - need help with rep plot approach

Hi Stuart - I can't get the PDF to open either, so I'm making some assumptions. FWIW, I'd suggest: - attractive even front wash, McCandless style, probably 3areas wide by 2 deep, to stop using all your instruments on the first task. Gentle warm gel one side, gentle cool the other looks nice and...

    iPad app similar to Qlab

I don't think that will solve the problem. Many iTunes tracks seem to be heavily copy protected and won't play in other apps. There may be some sort of ripper software so you can convert to a different format; or you can find the songs you want on YouTube, strip off the audio track using one of...

    iPad app similar to Qlab

I used Go Button for a series of small touring theatre shows. Easy to work, did just about everything I wanted. The limited version is only a problem if you need to be able to recall old shows. I only do one at a time so it works for me.Be aware that you can only import some songs from iTunes...

    Design Cyc Line issues

I'd hire some LED cycs for the cyc wash, with a groundrow if needed (depends on height vs what fixtures you get), and make the cyc really zing. You can always turn down the intensity to suit the rest of the stage picture, but if you want bold saturated colours, this is the way to go. And then...

    Options for LED striplights

I've got 4x Showline Bar 620's in our house rig. I love them! They have a wide pattern (about 60 degrees) but I think you can get lenses to vary the angles. I often use them as a cyc light but they are not as even as a dedicated cyc (I like the Philips Selecon PLCyc which has the same LED...

    Light board woes

Gotcha, sorry for being slow. Mine is a Dell, not sure of the model. Whatever was cheapest, pretty much!
