    strand palatteoffline??

HI The light palette has just been released over here in europe. Speaking to my local strand boffin, he reckons the the OLE will be out around August. I reckon they are still de-bugging the desk. At the launch the keys of the desk were being recorded to identify when error commands came...

    Formatting Disks

hi Ok got HD & DD mixed up. my point about a GSX/LBX being problematic with disks is more so concerned with older models of the desks. New builds definitely made using a HD disk easier & proper. There are older desks out there that will not accept a HD disk or need the gaffe trick to do...

    Formatting Disks

It sounds like you are using a GSX/LBX desk. They are notorius for having problems with disks. If it is a very old desk, your best best is to see if you have any DD (double density - 720KB) disks about. They are very rare these days. I have a box or two that I hold on to for these occasions...

    Tightening the Light

Hi I have been following this interesting post. There have been may excellent replies but I am curious about one thing. When your director specified that he wished to have "circles" instead of squared off profiles, what context was he specifing?? Are the lanterns part of a wash or destined...

    a wiring conundrum...

hi again I would check in your local electrical store or lighting hire shop. They are bound to have a knowledge of them. You can wire them up yourself but it is getting harder to find the parts. Suppliers only wish to sell them moulded. Trying to reduce the idiot factor or PEBCAC...

    a wiring conundrum...

hi It sounds like what you want is festoon cabling. You can buy the stuff made up with moulded sockets with X amount of holders for X distance. They are used in the contruction industry and christmas displays. Ah hell they are pretty much used everywhere. All you have to do then is wire...

    5 pin DMX- 512 channels... or 1024?

hello dt21 Just saw your post and see a few misguidedthoughts on some issues. There are two links to dmx related sites that are quite informative in above posts. USITT standard DMX connector is a 5 pin XLR connector. Not 3 pin. DMX currently use in a standard configuration only the 1st 3...

    5 pin DMX- 512 channels... or 1024?

Hi all All the above information is correct regarding dmx. here is a link to an excellent site that will provide oodles of info on the topic http://www.dmx512-online.com The other 2 pins(4&5) are currently unused at the mo. In recent months USITT has ratified dmx 512-A. This will...

Mirror Ball Motor from Dimmer pack???

Hi Yes, you can "run" a mirror ball motor off a dimmer. The control desk should not not matter in this sense. The quality of the dimmer is the more pertinent. In order to run a mirror ball off a dimmer, you should use the dimmer as a switch/non-dim i.e. it has a trigger rate of xx% on the...
