    NCarts and Portfolios

I interviewed and was accepted during my interview for NcArts. Im a lighting person, so I can't help you much with the portfolio, but I can say they want people that are passionate about what they are doing. Have good interview skills and practice with someone.

    Harnesses/ safety lines

As an Emergency Medical Technician, Firefighter, and Rope Rescue technician, I feel confident in saying that half the comments made on this topic are made with serious lack of training and knowledge. I have heard several suggestions on using climbing harnesses for life safety. One word… NO. You...

    Whats your programing style?

I almost always have any show or conect programmed with cues and have the SM call my cues. I tend to not take jobs where there is not adequate time to cue it. In the event that I have to or want to do last minute shows I will run shows with submasters if I have at least 24 subs. I make...

    should I trust american DJ?

Two 5 pin DMX ends and 100' of ethernet cable work and it costs only 15.00. Use these all the time for Movers in back of house.

    should I trust american DJ?

Keep in mind that it's not the equipment that you use, as much as it is the thought you put in your design. Tech people seem to miss this important fact. I've worked at both ends... 12 6" fresnels to 600 conventionals and 45 Movers. The design can look great either way. As for NSI...

    Gam Check or DMM

Agreed. Behringer's compressors with gates tend to be loud when the gate changes states, though. They work ok if you don't use the gate. I keep a compressor/ limiter ( actually now that I think about it, one is a behringer on my smallest rack) between my consoles and amps for smaller rental...

How to contol the work lights.

You could ask him to not put a timer on the lighting console and explain why it is a bad idea; then show him how to turn them on easily with the console. It may be to your advantage to have a goast light for him. If the space is small enough it should be plenty of light.

    Dimmer Protocol

Often the manufacturer of your console will be able to upgade your outputs to DMX 512. I can't remember who makes the adapter for this, but I know one is out there.

    Gam Check or DMM

Hmm, maybe you're a lucky one. I haven't had a good experience with Behringer in a long time. I don't like that Behringer knocks off alot of their products from other companies. My point is still the same though, buy the best tools you can afford - it will save you money in the long run. I...

    cad

I like softplot for smaller studio shows. It's easy to introduce younger techs to lighting without getting to far into a drafting lesson. Softplot has come a long way, but still is not the software of choice for larger shows. I tend to us VW for all of the shows I do, but if I am in a hurry I'll...

    Gam Check or DMM

Get over what? I was mearly pointing out that behringer does not make the most dependable equipment. Having owned at least a few thousand dollars worth or behringer lighting and sound gear, I can safely say that the price is directly related to the preformance of their products. I'm sure that...

No thanks, behringer isn't exactly the best equipment ever. I'll stick with my whirlwind q box

    Gam Check or DMM

I think I'm going to buy a Gam check. While it would be much cheaper to build one, I've found that professionally desinged equipment holds up when you really need it, and I can't afford for a peice of equipment to fail when I need it. I will still keep my Fluke onsite , but I have a feeling...

    Gam Check or DMM

I've been thinking of buying a GAM Check for testing cable, insturments, ect. I have a very nice Fluke DMM that I absolutly love, but I want something cheaper that I can afford to drop. Do you think I should go with a Sperry meter from lowes for about $80 or fork up the $150 for the Gam check...
