Oh man. Are these setups common amongst the high school level? Because this is my first year running sound at my school and we've got.. next to nothing.

Yeah, they like to toss in a couple jokes here and there. Although, I'd rather I not have to read the Mackie manual, as that means I'm stuck with my Mackie board. :p
