    DMX Terminator Question

I was using the Big Clive diagram. But this makes more sense, I have to apply voltage to turn on the diode and then the other resister will be in the circuit. Kind of like trying to get an ohm reading on a diode, it reads as OL until it has voltage applied to it.

    DMX Terminator Question

I have found the thread here about the home made terminators with the LED's.I tried to build them 2 ways. 1. Parallel 2 270 resistors and a parallel Bi color LED. Resistance from pin 2 to 3 is 130 ohms and the LEDs seem to act properly. The ohms read correctly and the LED works fine.2...

Hiring Lighting Designer/Assistant TD - Full Time - Austin TX, Where should I post?

Re: Hiring Lighting Designer/Assistant TD - Full Time - Austin TX, Where should I poTaking applications over controlbooth? J/K I check Churchjobs.com all the time, but most are very vague in the job description. Most likely you need to get someone to relocate, and not very many people are...

    generators?? what?

Rating in KVA is a trick for the low end generator mfgs. Go to a Northern Tool or Harbor Freight and that is what you will see. Because a consumer doesnt know so if brand A advertises 20KVA and brand B advertises 20KW for $400 more, the consumer will most likely pick A. And from my experience...

    generators?? what?

While it is a number between 1 and 0, it is also expressed as a leading pf or lagging. KW is still used as a standard in the generator world. For example, I had a customer that had a 100Kw generator that was powering an elevator (among other things). The elevator had a .5PF on start up which is...

    generators?? what?

Are you sure that you dont have this backwards? KVA does not calculate power factor, KW does. V*A = KVA. V*A*1.73(for 3 phase)*PF/1000 = KW. Most commercial generators are rated in KW not KVA and most are rated at a .8PF.

    WYSIWYG and Sketchup

Hi all,I have been using sketchup for stage layouts and wanted to try to use it for Pre-Viz stuff. I am currently Demo'ing WYSIWYG but the learning curve seems a little steep and doing actual rooms and stages seems like it would be a huge task. I have done a simple stage and a few trusses with...

    Anyone attend ETC's CUE?

I just saw that they are having another one in June or July. Has anyone been to this yet? What was the over all agenda? I want to know if this is worth a trip. I use their dimming and S4Jrs but not consoles, I want to know that I am not going to be wasting my time learning to use something I...

    Control/Dimming Dirty DMX Problems

I did not see a quantity of fixtures. For me that has been a huge problem solver. Especially with the cheap lights. 10 fixtures on a universe, every thing works fine, 11 fixtures, one or 2 problems, 13 lights and I get Disco Fever. Back down to 10 and everything works great. And even the fixture...

    Control/Dimming Contact Closure Conversion

What about a Bosch Automotive relay? They are $5 and while the coil is rated at 12VDC should work down to 9 or 10V.

    Building a Lighting Console?

I 2nd the Arduino. Check Youtube. Its easy enough and with the use of a few cheap rotary pots you could do a lot.

    Power in an Airport Hangar...Help???

This...All the talk of grounds and neutrals does no good if its 400HZ. Unless your entire rig is incandescent lights with a rotary pot for a dimmer. Or toasters.

Suggested DMX software for learning how to program?

Try Jands Vista. Very little if any short cut keys. Its very easy to patch and unpatch. And you dont need to use a number pad for programming. Super visual as well. You make all the LEDs red, and they look red. It also works with WYSIWYG.

    New Chavuet LED Fixtures

Any venue that can buy "a few dozen" S4LEDs is not the market for Chauvet. Anybody with that kind of money does not care about a lower cost fixture. They want something that is going to work, everytime. 90% of the mobile DJs out there dont have $1000 in their entire lighting rig. They have a...
