What are your best Chinese fixtures, and where to find them?

I do have Phillips Hue bulbs in nearly every light in my apartment! They are awesome, but they aren't too bright and can't be controlled very quickly. They are more suitable for mood lighting rather than serious stuff. As an update to this thread, I have ordered two 90W, RGBAW+UV small moving...

What are your best Chinese fixtures, and where to find them?

I would look at some of the bigger names (Longman, Irradiant, Neo-neon). I don't think you would have any problem finding a Chinese manufacturer that could make a similar fixture, but it will be difficult to find one who is reputable and you can communicate with easily. You could try contacting...

What are your best Chinese fixtures, and where to find them?

Yeah, but I just prefer the look of higher-wattage sources and lenses. I know I'm asking for cheap stuff, but the 10mm gear looks like I just bought a bunch of LED's at RadioShack and soldered them onto a board. I just don't like the look.

What are your best Chinese fixtures, and where to find them?

There are tons of cheap (and probably decent) LED pars out there, but I would really like something with similar functionality in a bar form factor. Unfortunately these seem to be really hard to find directly from a manufacturer. How hard can it be to just take those LED's and put them in a line...

What are your best Chinese fixtures, and where to find them?

Let me start by saying that I don't want to re-open the can of worms that was started in this thread. I know there is a lot of well, shall we say tension around the use of no-name Chinese fixtures but that's not what this thread is about.I want to buy a small number of LED fixtures for use in...

Making something free fall / Phantom of the Opera discussion

This is closer to the movement in the original touring production, but I would still cause this rather slow. Pretty impressive for a regional production though.soundman, thanks for the response. You raised some issues that I didn't think about, like loads during an e-stop. I guess the fact...

Making something free fall / Phantom of the Opera discussion

Yeah, I realize the sudden stop could be an issue, although I would think it could be designed such that the blackout is early enough and the chandelier has enough time to (relatively slowly) decelerate so that there aren't crazy stresses applied every time the chandelier hits the bottom of the rig.

Making something free fall / Phantom of the Opera discussion

Note: Spoilers for some effects in Phantom of the Opera follow. If you haven't seen the show, you have been warned.I just saw the new US touring production of Phantom of the Opera tonight! It was excellent, although very different from the original in terms of staging. It was probably the most...

    High fog for theatre?

No problem. We screwed it up because we didn't plan it well. :p Just saw your post and it brought back memories, so I had to throw out a warning about what can happen if you don't do it right. ;)

    Putting LEDs into costumes

Has anyone reverse engineered how they can seem to control the hats independently based on where they are in the crowd? I guess this could be as simple as different IR transmitters for different places, but when I watched the video it seemed more complex/accurate than that.

    High fog for theatre?

Originally it was about 1-2 feet, then we tried putting them right up against each other. The goal was to use a black scrim to dim a white cyclorama to try to get better contrast / better blacks as a projection surface and maybe add a little depth at the same time... in hindsight it was a stupid...

    High fog for theatre?

Saw this and thought I would throw out a quick warning. I tried this before for a show, it DID NOT WORK. I didn't think about it beforehand, but the shadow of the projection of the scrim in front of the screen combined with the scrim itself made a nasty moire effect that almost made you feel...

    Putting LEDs into costumes

Yes. It would depend on your specific implementation but you could just send a start timecode of 00:00:00 (or whatever) and then let the internal clocks carry the timing until they arrive onstage and sync again with the on-stage transmitter.[-]Unfortunately you couldn't use the video walls to...

    Putting LEDs into costumes

Quite an impressive show indeed. This is actually a genius idea. Program the show into the devices beforehand, then send global timecode through the IR transmitters. You wouldn't have to worry about 100% line of sight on the costumes as they wouldn't need to pick up every single "ping". They...
