    schemes for itinerant gel storage

Re: Convenient Gel sheet Storage? If you call up a Lee Distributer they sell a shelf that looks like Footer's picture. Probably a couple grand though. My arts center stores gel in blueprint shipping boxes. I will try and get a picture up here but they are basically 1' x 1' x 3' boxes with...

    WIRELESS POWER EXISTS!

I think Nikola Tesla invented wireless power a long time ago. The problem is that noonw can walk in between the source and the item being powered or you get fried.

New Band Teacher Thrown into teaching Technical Theatre

Wow, lots of replies, thanks everyone! He is up and running and things are going pretty well, all things considered. He sent all of his students to the shop teachers class for the first 2 weeks when they were doing safety and testing on all the tools. That was an awesome idea. I went in a...

    macro use

I throw "at, 0, 0, -, full" into macro 2 so you can step backwards. I also use macro 99 to save the show and depending on the console one to switch form channel mode to fixture mode (obsession 2)

    House manager vs. stage manager

The only time I have ever have this get tricky is with symphonies or other shows what going into overtime is a large deal. You house should have a late seating policy established and if the show needs to start then the HM should have some kind of plan to deal with the straglers. In the case of...

    Gaffing cable to the floor.

We have about 50 3' x 6' rolls of black carpet that gets laid over cable and then gets taped down after the cable has been checked. Most of our shows are 1-offs though.

    IATSE in your area?

I think that most Union Locals (as well as any large labor pool for that matter) has lots of good people, lots of bad people and lots of people that are just ok. Locall 336 in Phoenix is pretty awesome depending on the people that get sent to you. Our local has a request list first policy...

    Theatre Safety Issues

Re: Stupid Fire MarshalI was TD/Ops manager for a university venue that hadn't had any love since the 70s. The best thing I did was make friends with the head of the maintenance department (Janitorial, Electrical, Grounds and General Maintenance) Throwing the heads comp tickets to your show...

    Weight Loaders

I always send up at least 2 and if we are doing anything major then 4 (2 teams of 2). 1 person is usually loading and the other is the talker and the guy who hands the bricks to the loader. I personally think that if you are loading more than 2 linesets then it is too much to watch out for on...

    Freeware Cad Program

Will a high school teacher qualify for this? Vectorworks is a pretty detailed program for a 2D lighting plot isn't it?

    Freeware Cad Program

Anyone know a decent freeware cad program that I can use to make super simple plots for my friend? He has a grand total of 54 instruments and most of those are scoop lights so I don't really want to have to make him pay for softplot or VW. Thanks!

New Band Teacher Thrown into teaching Technical Theatre

I am planning on getting the shop teacher to help him with the tool situation. Hopefully the director knows some tech theatre but considering she is an english teacher I am not hopeful.

New Band Teacher Thrown into teaching Technical Theatre

So my buddy is a Band teacher and his district, in their infinite wisdom decided to force the band teacher to also teach technical theater and be the TD for the high school shows. Naturally he is freaking out and realized today that he is way in over his head. I work for a Broadway house so...
