Beam moving heads with good optics — what am I missing?

This is one of the categories in which you get what you pay for. The optics are going to tend to be better in a higher priced instrument. Not always but it is a good rule of thumb.Geoff

    Does Brightness/intensity matter.

Which does point out the fact that we are designing for an entire audience. Not everyone's vision is the same. A dark scene that you think it bright enough might not actually be for the average age of the audience.Geoff

    DMX vs Cat6

Unfortunately when you are talking about installs, terminating yourself is the only way to go. Thank manufacturers can't screw up terminations? Think again. I routinely run into DMX and ethernet terminations with manufacturer issues.Geoff

    what COLOR projection screen?

2019 Mac Pro — crazy or not?

Some things are overkill for video. If you are really just doing glorified powerpoint, that is playing back one video file after another and not doing any real live compositing work, most main line machines in 2019 will handle the task without breaking a sweat.Geoff

Plot Question: Side Lighting Instrument Spacing & Labeling

Is 18" spacing what most of you actually use? I see reference to 2' spacing in the drawing but 18" in real life. I tend leave my side light at the 2' spacing mark unless I really have no other choice or it is a paricularly large system.Geoff

I wish had in my no-budget house...

In response to only one DMX line, run ethernet everywhere. Put a patch panel in a central location and ethernet wherever you possible can. This can then be hard routed at the patch panel for whatever uses come up. A bulk box of Cat6 is not that expensive.Geoff

Part Cues or Follow/Hang - Difference? Preference?

It is also a brand specific thing. Part cues tend to be on the more theatrical side of things. Being a Chamsys user myself, I think of everything as discreet cues.Geoff

    Needing help finding a job

What he said. But while you are pursuing a GED, get on the call list of any theatre labor agency you can find. If you are in Illinois, there are several in the Chicago area.Geoff

    LDI has been sold

The issue with trade shows is that there is a certain critical mass that must be achieved. With everyones varying production schedules, it can be tough to gather enough people around an event. Regional style events under the auspices of an organization like ESTA I think are more likely to...
