Building a fence that can withstand heavy side loading

I am guessing that you need something like thisdont' waste time on aluminum fence, cows love to rub and scratch on things and the aluminum is too soft unless you wrap barb wire around it to keep them off they will destroy it.. unless you get Dexter Cattle.there is? I got chased by a...

    The "Ultimate" Focus Tool

I have used the Ultimate focus tool a lot recently and I like it, but it has drawbacks. The material it is made of is WAY to soft, it feels like an aluminum alloy, that makes it nice and light but not hard enough. Personally if they made them out of stainless steel I would buy one. I do like...

    Followspot Op with Hiccups?

hold your breath, if your on a stool step off the stool and use a very delicate touch on the spot. I once fell asleep in the spot booth between the 5 minuet call and places, I had one of those "falling dreams" and when I woke up I was leaned waaayyy over the edge of my stool. Since the glass...

Please Drink More (water that is)

I've been doing outdoor venues since 1986 (started in concessions as a kid) and I can tell you the most important part of working outdoors is a hat! I wear a light fiber "Drivers Cap" because thinking in the shade is so much easier, if your brain gets hot you cannot use it correctly. I pour a...

    Scaffolding Collapse

after seeing the news report I can tell a few things that were done incorrectly. At 1:37 I notice that the scaffold still standing has a small truss with lights hung on it, there are no guide wires (guy-wires) or base weight/ counter balance and the light truss is not centered on the support...

    Theatre Safety Issues

    Runaway lineset

Due to the lucky outcome he is not "fired". He is a part time overhire and we don't have many big shows until October. I think he is still on the call roster but if he wants to work he will be loading trucks until he has been re certified.

    OHSA Steel toe requirements?

What are the rules regarding steel toes boots in theater tech? We have several on our local house crew that do wear steel everyday but the theater will not require them since they don't want to provide them. I'd really like to know. The closest thing I can find to theatrical work is dock...

In the event of run away

good idea, that seems like a good job for the call steward, after all the they are the ones that set up the crew. This is a problem we had at the most recent accident site, people who were not rendering first aid standing around say stupid things. It doesn't help the victim to hear people...

    Anyone in Tulsa?

I get to go see a show! I get to sit in the house without a headset! After wanting to attend for many years I get to go see "Phantom of the Opera" this Sunday at Tulsa Performing Arts Center. The problem, I don't know anyone at that theater and I would really like to get a tour of the works...

    Runaway lineset

There is a total of 5 condemned lines, the runaway line and two on either side of it. The damage to the linesets is primarily on the low bumper rail, it smashed down to about 2" above the deck. As it bent it pulled the arbor guides of the lines to the left and right out of alignment. No damage...

In the event of run away

Good insight is always appreciated and both posts provided very good insight. I wish runaways never happened but there is (on average) one per week in the US alone. We do about 45 shows a season that use the fly system, and the variables in employee's skill levels vary from "temp agency tool"...

In the event of run away

don't know that anyone is doing it, but it can't be my idea, it's too simple and the theater profession is too old. the only reason I imagine Broadway didn't do it is that water does take up more space than steel.

    Runaway lineset

I couldn't agree more! in hindsight I wrote what will be included into our next training session and posted it here http://www.controlbooth.com/forums/carpentry/8174-event-run-away.html After we were able to get in and do a full damage inspection we condemned four line sets and saw where the...
