Brass Fasteners in Gel Holders or not?

My high school theatre teacher always taught us to use brads - we even have an unused roundel serving as a bowl for them next to our gel supplies... but usually we'll only use put one in one corner.

    Conventional Fixtures Yoke it out

Open down, for all the reasons listed above... also, apart from feeling safer, when the yoke isn't vertical - i.e. the instrument isn't underhung - the clamp helps support the weight of the instrument while you're tightening the bolt.

    Conventional Fixtures PC lanterns

Thanks for the clarifications, all - I'll try to convince our TD to get a pair of PCs next time we're getting new lights so we can play with them a bit, learn about how best to use them.... Does anyone have any experience with the Selecon models? They look pretty well built....

    Your Lighting Inventory

We've got a 700-person auditorium at Poudre HS, here's our inventory as best I can remember/estimate it (still new to lighting, so I don't know precise numbers): Fixtures Ellipsoidals 10x Altman Shakespeare 30° 5x Altman Shakespeare 40° 5x Altman Shakespeare 50° 8x Altman...

Hey, I thought we could share pictures of our shows...

This past May, our school staged 43 Plays for 43 Presidents - didn't get many decent pictures during the show, but here's a couple not-too-blurry ones:Taft's play:The presidential seal platform - this is before we gaff-taped the sides to cover up the frame inside...EDIT: Sorry the pics...

    Conventional Fixtures PC lanterns

So based on that, and also what I've seen elsewhere, a PC essentially has a sharper beam than a Fresnel, and I'm guessing would be a bit brighter, too, at the same wattage, because the lens is a bit more efficient, right? So it sounds as though you could imitate a PC with an out-of-focus...

    Conventional Fixtures PC lanterns

So, after looking through about a dozen lighting books (mostly college texts) and even more websites, I still can't find a definitive explanation of PC lanterns - everyone has their own term that PC stands for, and the beam has been compared to both Fresnels and ellipsoidals, and it's a...

ETC - So Simple It Hurts

Wow, that's a hard logo to find... pretty old, they've totally rebranded their online presence, at least.

A question for Ship or anyone else

I can't comment on the HSD250, but the MSD250 and MSD250/2 vary in colour temperature and CRI - the 250 is 6700 K, and the 250/2 is 8500 K. More detailed specs can be found in the links below: MSD 250 MSD 250/2 By the looks of it, they're easily interchangeable. Cheers!

GEL MAKING ON DISCOVERY RIGHT NOW

Huh, it differs from the version on iTunes - I think it's the same script and video, but a different narrator.... that's odd.

    Rosco I-Cue vs Meteor Ellipscan

Looking at the ElipScan manual, it seems to have an unusual channel layout for DMX - there's the standard pan and tilt, but also a pan/tilt speed... It would seem to allow timing cues right on the unit - could someone who has one clarify this? Would this affect my ability to control it through...

    Rosco I-Cue vs Meteor Ellipscan

I'm in a similar position to Felix - looking at using a moving head adapter with our Shakespeares for the next school musical, potentially as a low cost alternative to real automated fixtures (cheaper, and we get to keep them after the show)... but on the ElipScan website it states that the...

GEL MAKING ON DISCOVERY RIGHT NOW

Drat, no repeats tonight!! It'll repeat on the Science Channel (272 for most Comcast customers) at 16.30 MDT (4:30pm) on July 19th - I'll try to tape it and put that bit online for CB-ers.... Oh, and it's available on iTunes for $2 here...

Inventory and Cataloging Instruments for a Community Theatre

Here's a sample of what I'm planning to put on all of our instruments, if/when the school district approves it: (bigger version if you click it) My primary goal is to make an inventory that, if people update it, will let any the crew find any type of instrument and its location, or to...
