    electric shock and riggers

We appear to agree that it would be good practice to not energise a hoist until the up work on it is completed - this would be a great practice to implement industry-wide, right now. More specifically I would say that the hoist should not be connected to anything until the up work on that point...

    electric shock and riggers

Thank you everyone for your responses. I agree with de27192 and FMEng - we should never be running motors until the work is done. I'd like this to become standard practice throughout the industry. Thanks for the LOTO point FMEng, it gives this opinion a little more weight/legitimacy.

    electric shock and riggers

I would like to raise awareness in our community of the potential hazards to riggers from malfunctioning control gear and hoists. One useful approach would be to try to stop people from making electrical connections to chain hoists while the riggers are still working on the point. A rigger...

    Truss & Cheeseboroughs

re: Truss & CheeseboroughsQuestion for Derek - I'm interested by the advice to not use Steel Burgers on Al truss and vice versa. Is this related to typical chord diameters or another reason? Thanks

    Chain Hoist Electrocution Hazard

The most simple answer to ezekiels question is to make centre pin the ground on seven pin circular connectors (ceep or socapex), irrespective of the other pin assignments. The spinner can then never cause a loss of safety ground. Conversion can be very simple if two wires are swapped in the...

    Chain Hoists as permanent install?

I don't spend much time with single phase motors, but am quite familiar with the CM 3-phase units. Their speed will vary based upon load. As you approach their rated load the effect becomes more noticeable, (and current draw shoots up). There is no synching going on, although I would expect a...

    Chain Hoist Electrocution Hazard

With apologies for continuing this conversation in possibly the wrong place, but not knowing the correct procedure, and after further thought, I wish to amend my previous comment. It's true that people all day plug motors in to hot controllers without flameouts, so perhaps the more likely...

    Chain Hoist Electrocution Hazard

Regarding the 'flameout' I think that many of the most popular brands of hoist controllers, have a tendancy to be left with their contactor turned 'on'. Whether it's contactor enabled for pickling, or someone just hasn't 'killed' it. So now every output on that controller, and every motor cable...
