    Two questions for yall

A macro is a function built into many types of software and various lighting consoles that allows the user to press one or a few buttons to trigger automatic and rapid execution of a particular sequence of keystrokes. For example, since you (evidently) have an ETC Express, you might use Macro 1...

Why do we have 3 different size Ellipsodials?

http://www.leviton.com/OA_HTML/ibcGetAttachment.jsp?cItemId=7.kXoQ-SMlIZK5Tcz185CA&label=IBE&appName=IBEWith the Colortran 5/50 line you can change the beamspread. It's a matter of opening up the barrel and moving the lens to the specified slot for your desired field. Thus, what your...

    Colortran ERS Lens Identification

It certainly looks like the same fixture (minus the "Berkey" wording, but that shouldn't matter).I suppose they might be set to 30°, but I'm probably going to have to relabel them anyway - previous Lx crews couldn't mark gels to save a life, so who knows if the fixture labels are accurate...

    Colortran ERS Lens Identification

Greetings everyone,The previous LD at my high school left unexpectedly some time ago, leaving me to cope with a collection of conventional instruments including around 20 or 30 old-style Colortran lekos. They appear to be largely the same as the newer 5-50 series, with the various lens...

    Patching Questions

It sounds like you have an Express board or something similar. If that is the case, then yes, what you describe as far as unpatching the channels will work - simply select your dimmers and use the appropriate softkey. They'll go away until you repatch them to a channel, with no harm or hassle...

    Safety?

That one is absolutely critical... recently I took down a fresnel (from a flown electric!) that had no safety cable, a badly cracked lens, and was missing the bolt in its clamp. Somehow I don't think a power cable is quite rated for the shock load of a falling instrument.

    Safety?

Wait, what's this about hardhats while flying? That's a new one on me. Personally, I'm all for safety - one of my rules of thumb as to whether something is a good idea is "If I mess up, how will the accident report look?"

    One "hot" play...

Happened just a couple of months ago - the lighting board wasn't yet programmed properly, and the standard daytime setup was "All circuits at full." Turns out there was an ERS focused through a hole in the first left leg (neither the electric nor the leg had been flown for some time) until the...

Ancient Daylight Control - A Request

Really? I had always heard it was still on a resistance dimmer. You'd think they'd tell us when they upgrade our largest theatre.

    Working overhead

At my high school, we don't officially have to clear the deck at all - only call a warning including line #, and tie off the line if it is significantly out-of-weight.Unofficially, we tend to clear to centerline if throwing more than one or two bricks from the midrail, clear entire stage for...

    Hello

Greetings everyone, from the land of tumbleweeds and heat commonly known as Arizona. I'm a student techie and primary lighting designer at a fairly large (albeit low-budget) high school. I've been looking at the site for a good while, so I finally decided to sign up.
